the month At the last pool managers meeting Clint Charles was selected as the West Millard Community Swimming Pool’s Lifeguard of the Month for February Clint a junior at Delia High School this year has been a member of the Delta High Swim Team for the past two years specializing in the front crawl Not only is Clint an excellent swimmer but he is a super person who is looked up to by all the youth who come to swim at the pool Clint is a very good lifeguard alert on the chair very courteous to the pool patrons and a hard worker What ever Clint does he strives to do his best The pool management appreciates Clint for the good example he sets for the other employees he is truly an assest to the West Mill:"A Pool Swimming Pool News A bulletin has just been released by the American Red Cross stating that all the Red Cross Aquatic programs have had a major change f or instance there will no longer be an Advanced Lifesaving Course instead the course will be called a Lifeguard Training Course All people presently certified in Advanced Water Safety instruction Lifesaving in the new etc must become Red Cross programs Therefore the Advanced Lifesaving Course which was to be offered at the West Millard Pool beginning March 6 will be postponed until April which will allow the pool management time to get trained in the new programs The course to in April will be the be offered Lifeguard Training Course instead of the Advanced Lifesaving Course The prerequisites for the lifeguard Training Course are very similar to the Course Advanced The Lifesaving swimmer must be 5 years of age on or before the beginning of the course must be able to swim 500 yards continuously using the crawl breaststroke elementary backstroke and sidestroke Heshe must dive to a minimum depth of 9 feet and bring a 10 pound diving brick to the surface surface dive to a minimum depth of 5 feet and swim underwater a minimum ol 15 yards and must tread water of one minute The course length will be 27 hours instead of 21 hours but the certification will still be for 3 years Added to the quirements the student must have current certification in first aid and CPR If you take this Lifeguard Training Course in April and successfully complete it you will be one of the first swimmers in Utah to be certified in the new Lifeguard Training Program Registrations for the Lifguard Course can be made by calling the pool at The Alaskan cold wave which hit Utah this past week really played havoc with the swimming pool Not only did the building get cold and the pool water cool down but some of the pipes froze and broke A pipe in the ladies froze and cracked front bathroom causing the front lobby to flood when the pipe was thawed The main pipe leading to the mens’ locker room froze so none of the toilet facilities could be used and a pipe leading to an outside patio faucet froze These pipes also broke causing flooding to the mens’ dressing area and the lobby Luckily the pool area is designed to handle water so no damage was done to the building just a lot of inconvenience to everyone The pipes are repaired and things are just about back to normal With the cooperation of the weather all will be running smoothly again Peginning Monday February 27 1989 the pool will be open for open swimming right after school at 3:30 pm This schedule will be in effect until school is out for the summer Winter Swimming Lessons Registrations are now being taken for the fifth session of the Winter Swim Lesson Program which will begin Monday February 27 Call the pool at for more information |
