Jensen Julie Marlow and Mace Sally Mace On July 9 the Hinckley High School Class of ’32 held another class reunion to celebrate the 55th year of their graduation we are the class that “Actually didn’t graduate” said Waldo Warnick and Cluff Talbot the only members of the class who still live in Hinckley Cluff went on to explain that graduation exercises were never held for the class of ’32 School closed early that depression year because of lack of funds so in lieu of graduation exercises diplomas were mailed to the class members the “class that didn’t Traditionally graduate” has held a reunion every ten years but this year they waited only five years “Nine of our class have already passed away” said Dallas A Greener organizer of this year’s event “If we wait another five years there may not be enough of us left to have a reunion” Gentry Smith Don Smith and Jean Smith Ken Susan Topham and Opel Topham Fourteen of the remaining 21 who graduated from Hinckley High in 1932 attended this year’s reunion “We’ll be there in spirit” emphasized the remaining seven all of whom were absent only because of illness or previous commitments The group met at the Wisteria Cafe in Gunnison where a banquet was served followed by informal visiting and a light supper at the Greener home Later many of the group attended the “Mormon Miracle Pageant” in Manti “I am proud to be a graduate of Hinckley High School” said Rex C Reeve who among his many other has accomplishments noteworthy become one of the Seven Presidents of the Seventy in the LDS Church “Our school spirit is unsurpassed” spirit is outstanding was the concensus of all in attendance many of whom commented on the annual alumni reunions that have been held in Hinckley every Mother’s Day weekend r since the school was closed years ago Former students of Hinckley High the Millard and its forerunner Academy come by the hundreds each year many from far away places to catch up on each renew friendships other and to just reminisce Hinckley High School students have traditionally excelled in athletics In 1930 the “Hinckley Hayseed” basketball team with two of its members ‘Ferron Blake and Reed Curtis) only won the state sophomores championship The basketball and football teams from this small school of approximately 100 students went to the each year One student Ferron Blake later played on the Weber College championship basketball team and the football team that won a trip to Hawaii Many of the class excelled in track and other sports The class produced a number of skilled musicians several writers and educators many highly successful rana and businessmen chers farmers scientist and so on Almost all of the class have been influential church and civic leaders Of those attending the class reunion missions this year two served during the depression years when but few missionaries were called five after misretirement have served sions with their spouses seven have been or currently are stake mission r of their children leaders and grandchildren have served missions Eleven are currently temple workers Many have served in stake presidencies as high councilors and bishoprics Relief Society presidents and so on all As far as can be ascertained members of the class live the Word of Wisdom and have been actively engaged in church and civic affairs Ten of the group all of whom range in age from 72 to 74 have hip or knee one five including replacements woman have had open heart surgery The majority of the class are still accivic and volunteer tive in church activities The posterity of the 14 in attendance totals 64 children 159 grandchildren and 39 great grandchildren Outdoor dance in Delta Friday July 31 from 9 pm to 12 midnight the Delta High Cheerleaders be sponsoring an outdoor dance on the White Sage tennis courts in Delta Guy Harris will be playing the music and admission will be $250 per person or $400 per couple Come join the cheerleaders Friday night at the tennis
