Show Page USPS Millard County 4 - Than July 2 1987 Business of the Week Millard Places NOTE: The following taken from Milestones history up to 1952 Fullmer & Sons: “little old hometown garage excerpt was Millard a of Flour Mill Flour Mill In 1917 Marion Grundy attended a meeting of the Melville Irrigation Company and proposed to build a flour mill in Delta if the company would put in a power plant at the diversion dam on the river above town and furnish power In 1922 the price of wheat handicaps dropped and he had a lot of high priced wheat on hand His creditors closed the mill and it was sold to several individuals Then it lay idle a year or us entwo and in 1926 burned ding The Delta Milling Company to run the mill The building was completed in December fof 1917 It was not until 1918 and put into operation operated with an oil engine In 1919 the Telluride Power Company brought in the electric power Mr Grundy bought up a lot of wheat and operated under by Lenore McCall Who is this man? H West Millard I History Book jj I Who is this man? m i ' next year as “mother beets” to produce seed Mr Johnson also brought me some old Chronicles and other materials that add to about 20 stories we are researching They run from the building of the West Millard Hospital early school bus practices CCC Camp activities sex education programs suggested for the school to reorganization of ambulance service Do you have such materials tucked away that would be valuable for the book? vr ”$v 0 3m by Dawn Carder Willard Fullmer was born and raised in Abraham and he stayed at home until World War II He as many other young men joined the military and served his country in the European conflict While in the service he was an MP and one of his main responsibilities the “big was transporting to various outcolonels posts throughout Germany Following the war Willard moved to hired as a truck was Ogden where he driver to haul uranium ore Actually his training and responsibilities in the military were the primary reasons he was selected for the job in Ogden During the ensuing years Willard Fullmer continued to drive truck but he often had side jobs He worked in construction at times and always he found time to do what he truly as a maintenance mechanic Along the way health problems developed and changes were made All of Willard’s family members were still he got a little living in Abraham homesick for the “old country” so he and his wife the former Norma Riding of Delta decided to return home They moved back in 1970 Willard says that he returned to Delta with the idea of starting a business Initially he did some mechanical work and he drove truck for Doug Spencer Around 1973 using a small building near his home at 518 West 100 North he started Fullmer & Sons Sometimes in families history seems to repeat itself The Fullmer’s son Will went into the Army where he trained to be a wheel vehicle mechanic After his training was completed at Fort Dix New Jersey and Fort Ord California he went to Germany There he stayed for two and a half years working at his and maintaining vehicles “I enjoyed the country but I was also glad to come home” Will stated In 1975 Will got out of the Army and joined his father in the business As the business grew and large trucks required space for service there was a need for a larger building In 1978 the Fullmers built their new building Willard Fullmer says that in his life one job always led to another In 1979 he was offered a government position mechanic at Little as maintenance Sahara He opted to take it and his sons for the local assumed responsibility business the Fullmers’ Over the years youngest son Ted watched and was trigued the work going on around him He father says that Ted has been keenly interested in mechanics since he was ten years old At that early age young Ted dismantled a motorcycle repaired and it “He’s just a then reassembled natural at this work” says his father no wonder that the It is therefore youngest son has become a part of the family business According to Will there is no real boss at Fullmer & Sons Rather he and Ted divide the work as it comes along Willard humorously commented “Us old farmers never knew what bosses on his days off were!” Sometimes from Little Sahara Willard helps in the shop “But” he says “I try to hide as much as I can” Fullmer & Sons Garage is open Monday through Friday from 8 am until 5:50 pm and from 8 am until noon on Saturday They emphasize that the business was built for the local people to whom they continue to cater According to Will the Fullmers do all around auto repairs and vehicle spections They rebuild engines replace windshields and do “pretty much anything mechanical on foreign or domestic” cars and trucks Most of their customers are they report repeaters and word of mouth has brought in new people including tourists Admitting that this period is the tirst time they have experienced such a sud- -
