Dallin and Cathryn Nielsen longresidents of time and Fillmore have been chosen as Grand Marshals for the July Fourth’s “HapParade Constitution” py Birthday which is scheduled to begin at Second South and Main Street at 9:30 am Because this has been a “team effort” this year’s Grand Marshalls are a couple two people who have worked together on many phases of life in Fillmore Coming to town as newlyweds in 1945 acquainted only with Superintendent Angus Maughan and his wife Susie the Nielsens quickly got into community life as Dallin began his music program in the schools here with as accompanist helping Cathryn chaperoning band trips hosting band parties etc The climate for music was ideal with enthusiastic students supportive parents and schhol administrators (The Nielsens have often said how lucky they feel to have been in the school program at that particular time) In church activities their opportunities to serve in executive and also gave the positions teaching as they Nielsens much satisfaction worked together Community and civic activities have likewise been interests Civic Arts Fine Club Lions shared Garden Club Chief Kanosh Arts Fillmore City Council Pageant Library and Beautification Through all the activities they have enjoyed the Nielsens’ love of music an esthetic beauty has been the thread that has enriched their lives as they have sung and performed themselves in ward funerals countless programs choirs and as they witnessed their students participating in events such as the State UEA and the Spokane Worlds Fair and festivals Dallin counted once that they had gone twenty times to the Days of ’47 in Salt Lake where they shared responsibilities Serving a mission together in Peru was a highlight in the lives of Dallin and Cathryn “Eighteen months without a change of companion” Parade reminder and A reminder to all of you kids under: Get your bikes trikes wagons yourselves and anything else you can pedal push or pull and be in the Miniature Parade on July 3 at 7:00 pm Ask mom dad big sis or big brother to help you The parade route will be from second South down Main Street to Center Street and then left past the armory to the Fillmore Park There you will be treated to a surprise This is the first and hopefully not the last of this type of parade It won’t last very long and will allow those who want to go to their class reunion plenty of time to get there Carter Crosland will be the Grand Marshall of this parade He will lead off in his new wheel chair which he promptly named “Tarters Tar” We hope kids of all ages prizes for the best in several categories they’ve laughingly said “That’s real proof of compatability!” Currently the Nielsens are beginning their sixth year in the Name Extraction program in the Stake and they continue their interests and support of The most church and civic affairs treasured part of the “team” is their three children thirteen grandchildren and foster daughter They often comment that life is good here in Fillmore among so many dear friends Anyone interested in participating in Fillmore’s giant parade should contact Lyle Evans Prizes will be awarded in three categories: commercial religious and Events in the park will begin immediately following the parade with a bake sale featuring donuts pies and an assortment of other delicious treats Other food booths will sell hamburgers hot dogs pop cotton candy snow cones homemade icecream and a roast beef sandwich on a plate with cole slaw baked beans and chips There will be lots of games and rides for the kids including fish ponds a dunking booth baseball and milk bottle throws the crazy wagon dart throw and helium balloons The traditional variety show will also be held and it will feature Fillmore’s finest talent The children’s races will be held at a new time and place this year Races for children toddler age to 12 years old will be held at the new church ball diamond at 7:30 pm There will be concession booths during the races A fireworks display will be set off at dusk Don’t forget the early breakfast at the Legion Hall at 7 am Plan to attend Fillmore’s celebration for a Fourth of July the whole family will enjoy Everyone awaits the Great Cowpie at Fillmore The Great Cowpie Contest set for Saturday July 4 has stirred a lot of terest as the newest and most unique part of the traditional Fillmore 4th of The event which is July celebration sponsored as a fund raiser for the MHS Girls Athletic Program will take place at 2:00 pm at the MHS football field A $200 prize will be awarded to the winner For the Great Cowpie Contest the MHS football field will be divided into 5 yard X 5 yard squares Each square for a $500 donation is being “rented” to MHS girls sports On the day of the contest a cow will be lead onto the footattached to a long rope held ball field by a referee The cow will be allowed to wander on the field until it makes The renter of the square a “cowpie” in which the cow makes its first cowpie will be awarded the $200 prize Although there are only a limited number of squares available there were still some squares available to be rented Squares are being rented at Duane’s to the end of the week from 900 am to noon and 4:00 to 7:00 pm so if you haven’t rented your square yet be sure to get one right away Any remaining squares will be sold at a booth in the park on July 4 prior to the great event Everyone is invited to view the “making of the cowpie” at 2:00 pm on July 4 at the MHS football field A short program will precede the contest itself and refreshments will be sold Admission is free Fillmore Children’s American Legion Parade to have pancake A new addition to the July 4th celebration in Fillmore the Children’s breakfast Parade to be held on Friday evening is July 3 at 7:00 pm All children ages years and younger are encouraged to decorate their bikes or wagons or whatever and join in the fun No motorized vehicles will be allowed for the safety of the children The parade will begin at the corner of Second South and Main and proceed along Main Street to Center Street There will be treats at the park for all children who complete the entire parade route as well as prizes for the best entries The annual traditional American Legion pancake breakfast will be held Sat July 4 from 7 to 9:30 a at the American Legion Hall in Fillmore The Legion extends an invitation to all visitors and residents to drop in and partake of the best breakfast you have ever had The Legion has been a strong supporter of the July 4th celebration put on by the different wards They will have a float in the parade also UP&L has new manager On Wednesday evening June 24 1987 Lisa Taylor was chosen Miss Liberty 1987 She is the daughter of Glen and Elizabeth Taylor Jena Edwards daughter of Jim and Jeanne Edwards was first attendant and Shelly Bunker daughter of Gayle and Donna Bunker was second attendant The Miss Liberty contest was sponsored by Delta City and it was under the direction of the wives of the City The eleven contestants Councilmen appeared in formal dress and each original speech presented a entitled “What’s Right with America” Delta’s 4th of July dance Everyone loves an outdoor dance On July 4 starting at 10:30 p on the Delta High School tennis courts the Delta High cheerleaders will be sponsoring the 4th of July dance in conjunction with Delta’s July 4th celebration The music will be by Guy Harris and the admission will be $250 per person or $400 per couple Plan to finish off a great 4th of July by joining the cheerleaders at the tennis courts for a fun night of dancing Delta Parade participants!
