region that Springville High School does nor are we a 3A school But we were vited to that region so our swimmers could qualify for the 3A State Swimthat ming and Diving Championships will be held February 20 will be a night to remember All three Delta High School seniors will be closing out their illustrious high school wrestling careers that night as they participate in the Utah Senior Match to be held Feb 20 at 7 pm in the Dee Event Center in Ogden Utah The event will be held in conjunction between collegiate with a BYU Utah wrestling powerhouses State and host Weber State The entire evenings action is being called the “Weber War” WAR stands for Wrestling Attendance Record Weber will be looking to break the state collegiate attendance record of 4460 So picture if you can the top 38 senior wrestlers from all over the state wrestling against each other and on a separate mat some of the top collegiate wrestlers in the nation doing battle Lots of action and plenty of excitement And three very talented Delta High school seniors Between them they have three this a combined record of year All three have their sights set on individual state titles Callister the son of Scott and Barbara Callister will be paired off with at the Greg Godfrey Brighton’s weight class Callister has been wrestling for six years and has progressed up to become one of the wrestlers in the area He took sixth place as a freshmen then followed that up with a 2nd place match in last year’s State showing Callister who is also the studentbody president at Delta and an HINCKLEY Kountry FloralRancher Pineview Bonanza and Delta Invitational wrestling tournaments Moody the soq of Richard and at the end Carolyn Moody was of the season and was the defending at the class champion He will be paired with Tracy GittinS of Mountain Crest who is also undefeated in his senior year Moody is also the defending state freestyle champ two years running and has a three year high school record of This year he has racked up first place Pineview showings in the Wasatch Las Vegas and Delta Invitationals He was also named the Most Outstanding Wrestler in the Delta tournament Moody who played defensive end this year and throws the discus on the track team is also the studentbody at Delta High School Porter the son of Jim and Virginia Porter will face Jasen Averett of South Summit in one of two heavyweight battles that evening Porter who has been wrestling eight years is currently this year He took a year off from wrestling his junior year after finishing 2nd in the tourney as a sophomore but has come back strong He recorded a first place and Most Outstanding Wrestler showing at the Pine View Invitational this year He is also an allstate performer in other areas He was choir member and was the an shape We salute them for their extra mile efforts on behalf of Delta North Vicky is Mrs Stanworth’s sister and works at our school each day for about four hours Vicky lives in Delta with her two daughters April and Gina Vicky grew up in Kamas Utah She tended Kamas Elementary and South Summit High School Vicky has always managed to keep busy She has worked as a cook at a and drive-iand as a custodian housekeeper for several local businesses and motels In her spare time Vicky enjoys a good baseball game with family and friends She also enjoys baking and QUARTERBACK BOB signs his autograph for in Mrs Hunter's third graders class The third grade students of Mrs Gloria Hunter’s class at Fillmore Elementary were visited by Bob Jensen the star quarterback of the Brigham Young University Cougars last Thursday February 12 The students had decided to write a biography of Mr Jensen as a class project Mrs Brenda Robinson a student teacher working with Mrs Hunter initiated the project arts as a part of the language curriculum Mr Jensen was interviewed by the class as they asked questions they had concerning early school memories his family things he liked to do his football career his religious work his recent marriage and much more about his life He also showed a great deal of interest in the students as he asked many of them about their families likes and dislikes He advised the students to always study hard and to do their best in school Following the interview session Bob signed his autograph for each of the Soon many students from student other classes began wandering in in Mr hopes of getting an autograph Jensen gladly complied Bob also spent some time outside with the students throwing them passes The students were awed by the height and distance of his throws Mrs Hunter’s third graders will now begin working on putting together Bob Jensen’s biography They are planning a book featuring several illustrations as well as the written word The students will make a special copy to be presented to Mr Jensen upon its completion PTA elections Election for new PTA officers for the Fillmore Elementary will be held Feb 24 at the Reflection Ceremony Those that are home in Hinckley after spending most of the winter visiting with her children and family For Thanksgiving she was in Bountiful with her daughter Grace Waldram and was invited to delicious dinner with her son Randy and family Then the next day they drove to Idaho and stayed in the Holiday Inn where the group enjoyed the indoor games swimming and hot tubs and the pools and hot tubs at the hot springs also For Christmas holidays whe visited in Payson with her children Joyce Verrue and their families At her brother Elmo’s home in Orem LaVern attended the annual Croft family party with her sister Inez Steed and brothers Calvin Merrill Elmo and their spouses They enjoyed delicious food lots of visiting and remembering their days when living in Deseret Paul and Dorothy Theobald were at their home in Orem so she visited with them for a few days Blair and Eda Maxfield of Cedar City came to see his mother in Delta and took her mother home with them for a visit They went to St George to the temple so LaVern stayed to visit Paul and Dorothy Theobald and Merlin and Beulah Theobald and family Paul took Dorothy and his mother to Las Vegas to visit with son Golden Carol and family for a couple of days Last Friday LaVern Theobald was surprised when her son Verrue came in his van to take her to his brother Leon sisters Grace Joyce and Elaine to go to St George for the weekend Eda Maxfield of Cedar Golden and Carol Theobald of Las Vegas Merlin and Beulah Theobald of St George all went to Paul and Dorothy Theobald’s beautiful home for a visit They all enjoyed good eating dinners at Merlin’s and Paul’s visiting remembering growing up at their home in Hinckley and living on a large ranch in Sutherland They had a good time and hope to have many more The wife of Calvin Croft’s
