Show Millard mayors want government cut No federal program is too sacred to be left untouched by or any other reduction plan according to an overwhelming majoriOrrin Hatch’s 393 ty of Senator member Utah Task Torce The Utah Senator said 63 percent of those responding to the survey said all federal programs should be cut some more than others ‘‘I wish the thinking of these locally elected officials was shared more in Congress where the responsibility lies to drastically trim programs and bring our budget back into balance" said Hatch One respondent even suggested that the federal funding program to states and local governments allows wasteful spending While a near unanimous number of task force members agreed that all federal programs must be closely scrutinized and trimmed there was no clear majority opinion on exactly how much to cut Most of the remaining task fotce members arc satisfied with the approach the budget reduction plan is taking Delta Mayor Ruth Hansen said while cuts should be made in the federal budget great care must be taken not to hurt people who are already hurting in today's system "I'm not too about because it hurts those who have been carrying the load all along" Cuts in the budget need to be consistent according to illmore Mayor Keith Gillins “We ought to cut all think the' including welfare cuts ought to be all inclusive and cut all piograms not just some of them” Senator Hatch said his task force members expressed very strong opinions on wilderness designations in the state Nearly 80 percent said federal lands should have multiple use rather than tie up any more area for wilderness "It is my hope that we can plan for wilderness that will benefit not only ourselves but perhaps more importantly our posterity" Hatch continued "I strongly feel that we need to look at the economic social and recreational energy development impacts in order to get the ‘big picture’ and thereby facilitate drawing up a long term wilderness plan for the state "The ultimate objective of this approach is to provide the people of Utah with incredible beauty and wildlife in the form of pristine wilderness improved recreational facilities and the needed energy and mineral resources essential to the increasing demand to Utah’s population" Mayor Gillins said Southern Utah has enough wilderness without setting any more aside "One of the reasons we have forest fires is because of the characteristics of wilderness would rather have livestock eat the dry forage than let it burn up in a forest fire” Hansen favors the Mayor multiple use concept of our public lands The information Senator Hatch gathers from these public officials through twice a year meetings and surveys is vital to how he votes in Congress “Their input is most helpful because they represent important views held by count on their supmy eonsituency port in this way” Hatch concluded services moves to new offices Spouse abuse data sought in national being conducted by a research team from Brigham Young University School of Social Work and California in State cooperation with the Salt Lake YWCA Salt Lake City and its surrounding area has been randomly selected as one of twelve communities to participate in this study Though the incidence of domestic abuse is high women also place a high value upon marriage and family relationships as well as safety issues For this reason many women remain in abusive situations a long time and try a number of methods to end the abuse This summer a study is underway to determine what strategies these abuse victims have tried and what results they have had Were they able to end abuse and remain with their spouse or was separation necessary? How were they able to stop the violence? If you have been physically abused by your spouse in the past but have not been abused for at least one year the research team asks you to share these experiences with them Victims both those still living with a formerly abusive spouse and those who have left the relationship to end the violence are urged to assist in this study All replies are completely To participate or for more information deepest sympathy to all concerned and to all the Hepworth family and all who have lost their loved ones It will be a relief when all of the fields have been burned and the smoke will be eliminated from the night air Sometimes wc wonder where thoughts come from and how we can control thoughts is essential to controlling all we are ever likely to become and everything we are about to be He who persists in saying that he cannot help what he does If we cannot help what we think or what we do we obviously could not be trusted under any conceivable circumstances We can turn our attention to a particular train of thought at a particular The answer to acquiring time knowledge to developing talent to proving skills is to choose to think what we should think to choose to constructive purposes and not to be physically present and mentally absent What we shall be we are becoming We need always to understand that we have to control ourselves our thoughts and and our every actions utterances
