The motivating I'oicc vaties from limner to runner It may be the desire lor fitness or it may be the desire to conquer odds Other teasons for running arc the enjoyment of natuie the need to prove self a time for meditation time to play or the need to telease tension Whatever the reason all runners share a common bond They love to run l Thursday July 24th is Pioneet Day On that day the Deseret Radton 17th Annual Matathon and 3id Annual I0K Road Race will take place in Salt ake City Tive atea runners will participate Rodger Williams of Delta amberl Dutson and his nephew Gaty Dutson of Oak City will cover the difficult marathon coutse ambert's son Kut and another nephew Craig Dutson will run in the I0K tace Also running this race will be Dawn Carder of Hinckley A marathon is a giuclmg race covering 262 miles Piepaiing for this race is no easy task Rodger began his naming in March running five to ten miles daily In order to develop endutance and to strengthen his legs his work outs include running on the sand dunes in the heat ol the day On week ends Rodger goes for runs of fifteen or more miles Included in his training are work outs with weights Running and Rodger just go together Lambert began running for health teasons and he now finds running is pail of his life style All year long he runs between four and five miles daily I'or three months prior to a marathon ambert runs seven or eight miles each day Once every other week during this lime he goes for an eighteen mile run Both Rodger and ambert express leelings of as a result of their running Both are willing to work with a novice giving pointers and encourageand conuadery that develop with runnels ment Both reflect the W'hat makes them run? Torpedo swim team has continued to enjoy success as team members have participated in two cent swimming meets At the Moab Invitational held July in Moab Natasha Dailey took 3rd place and achieved her ‘B’ time in the girls 50 yd butterfly (:3486) She placed 5th in the girls 100 yd dividual medley (1:2136) and took 6th place in the 500 yd freestyle (7:0646) Natasha also placed 6th and achieved ‘B’ 50 yd times in the girls and the 100 yd freestyle (:3181) National Age freestyle (1:1033) Group Time Standards are measured in terms of ‘B’ ‘A’ ‘AA’ ‘AAA’ and ‘AAAA’ times with ‘AAAA’ being the fastest It’s hard work just to achieve ‘B’ times for events in one’s age group Natasha has worked hard to achieve these times and we’re proud of her for her efforts Tevye (Cass) Jensen also attended the Moab Invitational and placed 5th in 50 yd butterfly the boys (1:0426) 7th in the 50 yd backstroke 1th in the 50 yd breaststroke (:5339) 12th in the 50 yd freestyle (1:0993) (:4223) and 13th in the 0 FREE ESTIMATES DELTA Swimming pool news Not very long ago the West Millard Community Swimming Pool purchased several expensive vinyl innertubes they all went flat The company the pool bought them from has agreed to replace all the tubes This time when the pool again has innertubes for the swimmers to have fun with the management feels that the tubes will be better taken care of if the tubes are individualAlso ly checked out by the swimmers the pool has just purchased several new balls for everyone to enjoy The fourth “Learn to Swim” swimming lessons session has just started at the pool The fifth and final “Learn to Swim” session for this summer will begin Monday August 4 It is still not too late to enroll your child into summer swimming lessons Now is the time to enroll your child into summer swimming lessons Now is the time to have your child learn how to swim before heshe develops fear of the water Registrations for session 5 can be made by calling the pool at The pool was very low prices A group of 20 cyclists came to the pool to swim and relax last Friday July 18 The group is cycling their way to San Francisco from New York City They started their journey on May 28 |
