UP&L irrigation pumper schedules in an attempt to make them more acceptable In a unanimous motion the state Committee of Consumer Services meeting in Delta last Friday gave approval to rate design expert Ray Makul to look at the rates and propose something new The pumping rate schedule was imposed in 1983 by UP&L in an attempt to encourage farmers to use power during periods The rate schedule also allows UP&L to pumpers if the power load becomes too much for the system But several farmers who attended the Friday meeting said the pumping rates had resulted in much confusion and in many cases the pumping costs were breaking some farmers Committee Chairman Felshaw King said the local farmer’s sentiments reflected the attitude of many other farmers across the state He said that investigator Makul plans to meet with various pumper groups around the state He proposed that Makul could also meet with Millard County farmers to get some unpul into developing more equitable rates Mr King noted that it appears the pumping rates are too general to deal situations with all the farmer’s conditions and irrigation “Climate habits differ from area to area” he said “And the pumping rates just aren’t flexible enough to deal with the variation in circumstances” For example pumping out of canals does not require as much energy but the rate schedule does not allow for any in this case said State compensation District 68 Representative Joe Moody He also noted that as a state representative he has had more contacts from constituents on pumping rates than any other issue he has dealt with EU LEAMINGTON MAYOR N JACK NIELSON (I) and UP&L Districl Manager George Cox admire ambulance the UP&L donates response emergent ehiile to enharue smites area UP&L donates ambulance to
