Well I’ll tell you Last Thursday Dennis and went to St George for the annual Utah Press Convention and the dust hadn't settled in the driveway before the typesetter got sick So when we arrived in St George the first message was to call the office Shclhe gave us the news the preview screen had gone black We kepi the phone lines busy with "twiddle this" "twist that” call the cc npany The company hav gotten too big for it's britches and one has to make dozens of calls Everyone reached is They say snippy and unconcerned “this is not my district you will have to call somewhere else" and when you get thiough you are back to the original number called and it finally snaps back into their brain that you are in their district Then you try to order a part Not so their policy is no parts! You have to ordei the entire unit Once that is done the runaround starts again Someone else (who is permanently out to lunch) has to okay the shipment The "out to lunch” person was in the height of his glory to be a real dip stick because of a tangle we had a couple of months ago He called and screamed at me for 20 minutes about paying my bill screamed back in less than patient terms that had no bill He of course is much smarter than anyone else and kept insisting kept arguing Finally he said you do own the such and such paper don’t you? NO says He argued more Heaven knows don’t know what own finally convenienc-chim had no connection to the above named paper and he hung up No apology of course for wasting my time and elevating my blood pressure So w hen Shcllie called he was far too busy and it was way too late (3 pm Calif time) to look up the file and make one phone call (to an office next door) to get the unit on it’s way Monday morning I had to start the routine again and we finally had the terminal enroute It arrived Tuesday morning and all the type you are reading this week was set and processed between am Tuesday and 5 am Wednesday We made the decision that dated material would take priority and rather than pick and choose a couple of correspondents we would just save them all over to next week We apologize for the inconvenience and hope this terminal has some longevity We replaced the exact same unit in July of 1985 and really think that modern technology should do better than that Community Calendar Feb 22 West Plaza l Feb 27 Food Health 23 27 28 & Mar I 2 Millard WBA Tournament anes Mar 5 Free Blood Pressure Clinic Public Health 252 W Main am Handlers Class Delta Public 252 W Main 9:30 am & 2:30 pm Mar 5 6 7 10 12 Upholstry Class - How about registered mail? What’s it going to do for you that certified andor insured mail won’t? First of all registered mail is the most secure way to send anything That’s because a registered article is signed into and out of evei'y office that it goes to When it’s signed into an office the sending office is notified actly what the receiving office got A registered article takes more time to get there but because it’s controlled so closely extremely valuable items are sent this way Not long ago the Hope diamond was TrmrnmnnnmrTrrimrrrrraTirrYTrm'nTinnnnnrrra sent registered mail You remember that diamond don’t you? It’s the one that is supposed to have a curse for whoever is the owner Registered mail is used daily across the nation to send diamonds gold rare coins and stamps money negotiable stocks and bonds and much more Articles can be insured for up to $25000 but we will accept them with a worth into the millions as with the Hope diamond Again couple this with a return receipt to let you know that the article has arrived and you can see that this is the best way to send that very valuable item There are 27 recognized breeds of February lh Millard County Chronicle Progress Clearance Sale Publisher - Editor Susan Dutson Editorial In the following departments Western Wear - Mens - Boys Juniors - Ladies - Girls - Infants Mark Amott at Large Reporter Affairs Desk National Advertising Riley Wood Sales 8 legal Billing Fillmore Office Manager Evelyn Mallet Deb Greathouse Accounts Receivable Circulation Fabrics Ward Julie Rita Bullcreek County $1500 per year 00 per 6 months $1800 per year County $1000 per 6 months Single Copy 50 cents POSTMASTER: PO When we move into a town our company advises us to get involved in community affairs IPP workers have This town has received lots of money from IPP workers We in turn have had no smoking signs in the bowling alley Our high school students hear that only Mormons have the right religion and true Christians Our kids are told by the two men fifth grade teachers that unions are bad When teachers’ jobs are in danger of having wages cut they howl Workers pay taxes for good schools We are told what political party to will resume meetings on Thursday nights at 7:30 pm in the Chamber of Commerce office In Advance Subscriptions of Water project explained am writing this letter to let you favor the passage of the know why water board First everyone concerned with the city knows that we have problems w ith the water system The question is how much should we fix now and how much should we put off until later The past city council and mayor and Sunrise Engineering have worked very hard to secure an interest free loan from the State of Utah This loan is for $16 million dollars The engineers estimate is $127 million The city council has voted not to let the bid be more than $ 270000 We only have to pay back what we borrow No interest If we had to pay back at say 7 percent interest we would pay $8400 in interest each of year We would save thousands dollars in interest Another thought on money If we piece meal the system everytime we do another phase of the project the rales will be raised to pay for it We will also have to pay the interest and when you piece meal all of the material will cost more because of volume buying power So it will cost 2 or 3 times as much to complete the project and end up costing each individual person much more in monthly water bills What will it cost me? The fees will this be raised to $1000 per month figures out to $48 per year or 13 cents per day Holden recently did their water system and had to raise from $250 per month to $1650 per month Scipio raised from $600 to $1700 per1 month to pay for their new system True it is very hard on older people who are on fixed incomes but in reality the young people will pay the bulk of the bill because they will be here for the 20 years it will take to pay it off Some people are concerned about the indebtiness of the city According to the last city audit Fillmore City is in very good financial shape What will the water project do for Fillmore City? It will install 52 new fire hydrants throughout the city This will upgrade the fire protection for our community and aid in obtaining a lower insurance fire rating 2 It will put a new line down main street Everyone of you good citizens have noticed how many times the city has had to repair this wornout out of date line in the past year Also it would be done in conjunction with the sidewalk project and main street would only be torn up once The Department of Transportation would also refinish the road at no cost to Fillmore City there saving Fillmore more money The water project would also reduce pump cost which amounts to around $9000 per month during the hotter months Two things that would happen here in Send Address Box 249 Delta changes Utah UJUUUUUUULU 1 LL8JUUUUUL' The first fire fighting organization America was started in to 84624 I I A U belong When your family applies for jobs only the good ones go to or not The schools are full of only the right name of religion or relative IPSC is under control of Mormons A few jobs are held by non after all you do have to run it Why don’t people here rebel? small in the middle of the city and they would be enlarged so the booster pump on the wells don’t hase to pump as hard to force the water through the couple of blocks of small pipe Second item would be to put in a telemetering system from the storage tanks to (he wells This system would save man hours to check the tanks gas money to run back and forth and wear and tear on equipment lines that 3 Most of the residential are less than 4" would be replaced and and will help with flow distribution pressure to homes w ho now have trouble All lateral lines that are older than 10 years would be replaced 4 A new line to the cemetery that costs around $40000 would be put in It would run from the dugway to the cemetery and help with pressure for at This $40000 could be the century recovered by lifting the moratorium on building above town and allowing church and a to be built there homes would also create more business and a few jobs Fillmore something desperately needs This line would also keep the tank at the cemetery full of water and add this additional storage to the system 5 Pressure regulating stations would be placed at different places on the East Side of Main Street to increase the pressure in places such as the Mountain View Subdivision The valves plus other improvements would also create pressure zones which will increase pressure to homes as well as to fire hydrants for fire protection it has been over 40 In summary years since Fillmore has done a major water project inside the city limits At least 4 different engineering firms cluding the State of Utah have told the city that they need to upgrade the system The original estimate was over $3 million but Sunrise has figured out how to complete the project for $127 million We have secured an interest free loan to pay for the project If we turn it down we will never get another interest free loan It will cost more to piece meal and end up increasing the monthly fee to more than $1000 per month All city council members agree we need to up grade the system They don’t agree on whether to do it all at once or piece meal Let’s do it all at once so we can save money so we can show industry we are a progressive ty that encourages growth and so we can save money for everyone over the next 20 years urge you to vote yes on March 4 and invite you to visit with me if you have any questions about the project state would also realize that years ago a water system was put in by many of you people so that you could have quality water service as well as and it For this my family benefitting from am grateful Now it is time that do this again so that the younger generation will be able to build homes and have quality water service and others could be encouraged to move to our community if they desire If we are going to maintain the quality of life we enjoy here in Fillmore we must continue to improve our services and be dedicated as a community to do so None of us like to spend money any honestly more than we have to but do not believe that we would be spending money unncccesarily for this probenefits the now would reap ject We and for years to eoinc ask each of you to diligently spend some time 1986 is an important day for the citizens of Fillmore This is when the Bond Election w ill take place water the culinary for improving is system for the community It important that every registered voter go to the polls and vote am in favor of this project for several reasons First of all believe it would improve the entire system to crease water pressure to the water users and an overall better water delivery However the water user must realize that an adequate size line properly maintained must be on his ow n property in order for this to work correctly Next the kind of funding that we can receive for this project with no terest to pay is not easy to get and may be harder to get in the future if wc don’t take advantage of it now Wc can do this now for a monthly base rate of only $1000 whereas in the future if wc had to acquire money with an interest rate attached the cost to the water user could be much higher A $1000 water rate would still be one of the lowest in an the State of
