Show Millard r Delta property taxes are low Cheryl Rose Prevention Delta C’ny property taxes are below the state aserage contrary to a headline over a story on the subject in last week’s Chronicle Progress In the story to the supplied it newspaper from Utah foundation is explained that overall property tax rate in Delta this year totalled 6760 mills compared with a stale average of 75 21 mills in 71 major cities However the Utah Foundation headline which our typesetter copied read “Delta property tax load above state average" Since many readers never get beyond the headlines the Chronicle Progress is printing this clarification of the issue to compensate lor the mistake The error is especially significant because Delta City officials have over the past few years worked hard at keeping property taxes low Tor example a recently completed road rebuilding costing project millions of dollars did not require the raising of the property tax mill levy Delta City officials were able to secure low interest loans from the state to complete the project Then 5500000 from IPP Impact Alleviation funds was invested at high interest to pay back the low interest state loans The Chroncile Progress regrets that anyone in the city might be left with the impiession that property taxes are high because ol last week’s erroneous headline when in fact just the opposite is true Education
