State of Utah and that operation reports (where required) have been submitted to the State Health Department The three towns join Delta and Kanosh as the only Millard County towns to have the “approved” rating The Safe Drinking Water Committee which made the award is responsible for drinking water safety standards throughout the state “It was the intent of the Committee to use the public water rating system basically as an formational tool” according to information released by the state Acting under the authority of the West Millard Senior Housing project plans are now being finalized The project site is large enough for the construction of 32 unit apartments The lending institution has recommended that 16 units be constructed beginning March 1985 and that the other 16 units be added as soon as the need arises We now have requests for more than 32 units However experience indicates that people who have expressed a desire to sell their homes before moving are sometimes slow in the transactions ot are disappointed in their selling price Therefore in order that we do not build more units than will be utilized at one time the project will be completed in two parts All those who are interested and anxious to move into the first 16 units please contact Mr Dell Ashby at to reaffirm your position on the list as to the urgency of your needs US Environmental Protection Agen cy said that schools from South Salt Lake City south were represented in the meet which required 400 judges Most of the DHS debating team acted as judges in the tourney as is the custom of the host But Mr Hansen said the meet was a significant development in the Delta High Forensic program “The fact that we were able to do this means our program is grow ing and that we are finally being accepted as a debating strength in the state” he said Last year the Delta High sophomore debate team took the 2A State Championship High School debate consists of six areas of competition: in and competiton s and individual event in Forum competition Legislative Origianl Extemporaneous Oratory Speaking and Impromptu Speaking So that students from across the can country compete together in national finals topics of debate are standardized I or example a national topic in deals with national policy stated as a fact: “employment should be provided for all of the impoverished unemployed” debate deals with more basic values which American society holds dear: “Are the rights of the m jority more important than the individual?" Mr Hansen said that he expects big things from this year’s debate team and is anxious to see what they can do Sevier to near normal at valley locations in the lower Sevier Early season snow measurements on indicate a mountain January snow pack about 1509’i of normal over the Virgin Beaver and Sevier watersheds Although the snow pack is above normal it is lower than last year at this time when the snow pack was l86°'o of average Runoff throughout southern Utah has been above normal Flow on the ittlefield for the Virgin River at period has been 127ffo of normal while the inflow to Piute Reservoir has been 50000 145ffo of average The most notable area of concern is the lower Sevier where water continues to flow The local inflow on the abundantly Sevier River between Sigurd to reservoirs at 86ro of 0 of normal and about capacity 22 less than last year at 39000 this tune The high runoff expected on the lower Sevier basin and the San Pitch drainage may produce some high water conditions in flood prone low lying areas however flows aie expected to be somewhat lower than last year The character of the spring weather will be the biggest influence on the extent ol the high water conditions Sheriff collared for state position The Utah Sheriff's Association met in St George Utah on January II 1985 for their monthly business meeting and to elect new officers for 1985 Senior Housing project plans being finalized Oak City Lynndyl Fillmore drinking water approved Oak City Lynndyl and Fillmore have become the latest Millard Counrating ty towns to get an “approved” for compliance with the Utah Public Drinking Water Regulations Water supply: Above average again Our Apologies In our story last week on the March of Dimes Mothers March we omitted the names of inadvertantly LeGrande and Mary Davies of Fillmore from the story The story a Mothers quoted Jane Knight March leader in Delta but omitted the fact that LeGrande and Mary Davies are and have been for many years Millard County Chairman for the March of Dimes supervising not only the yearly Mothers March but the annual walkathon and all other March of Dimes activities throughout the year Fluoride levels occur naturally in our water and the Millard County Health Department has just released statistics on the exact amounts which our wells produce “Due to the increasing number of quests from the public regarding the amount of Fluoride in the water they drink we are releasing information about the Fluoride content in over 25 sources in Millard County" said county Environmentalist Specialist Jed Finlinson The information could be vital Mr Finlinson said because concentrations greater than 3 parts per million can cause the teeth of children to become discolored depending on the amount of and amount of water concentration Fluoride consumed and whether treatments or precriptions are given Drinking water containing 0 parts per million natural or added Fluoride is beneficial to children during the period when they are develop- ing permanent teeth That is because the incident of dental cavities or decay is reduced by about 60 percent The most desirable of amount luoride in drinking water is approximately part per million (or this area The maximum permissible concentration in drinking water has been established at parts per million depending on the annual average daily air temperature for the location in which the water system is located Mr Finlinson said that none of the water systems reported had excessive Tluoride at the date of analysis Methods are available for removing Fluoride when excessive amounts are found such as Ion Exchange Reverse Osmosis and others Physicians dentist and families with children should take note of the followluoriJc levels from various sources ing within the county and use it in deterluoride or not mining whether prescriptions or treatments are needed and if so in what levels for various situations The lists includes the
