to retain active membership in the American Academy of Family the national (AAFP) Physicians association of family doctors The requirements call for the members to complete a minimum of 150 hours of accredited continuing medical study every three years The Academy the country’s largest medical with more than 60000 association members was the first national medical group to require members to keep It’s a vexillologyist Consultants state director has Amy Owen assigned specific staff members to certain library districts throughout the state Our consultant who has been a big help to us is Sandi Long She is only a phone call away Uplift and Upgrade These are two separate programs with one goal and that is to improve the local libraries Uplitt assists in the training of library staffs through a one week workshop once a year for four years This is held at the University of Utah each August Along with intensive classes on four phases of training there are several shorter classes on useful skills The evening hours are spent talking shop with the thirty or forty librarians living in the dorm together This free time has proven to be one of the most important aspects of the workshops The Upgrade program is to assist the library boards to improve library service by goal setting and working toward specific improvements Our consultant has the greatest responsibility for this program Sandi has been at our board meetings and has been a great help in this respect The State Library Board of which Mike Styler is a member! charged the state library with develop ing this program Grants Construction grams helped us finish our building including the handicap ramp and our multipurpose room The Literacy grants paid for two years of literacy classes for over fifty people The development grants awarded for the last two years have pui chased many children’s books and a new laminator for both library and public use All local libraries appreciate the services of the state library very much -- See you in the librar- |
