Show Page 8 - Millard County I'SPS Thurs Mar 19 1987 MHS Sterling Scholars i? port ° baseball gears up DHS Pool’s 8th Birthday Science Lori Stevens Business Sheri Kay Christensen March 21 from 12 On Saturday noon utnil 5:00 pm there will be free swimming and free refreshments at the West Millard Pool to celebrate the pool’s 8th birthday Everyone is invited to attend this fun party Swimming Pool Mathematics Shaunna Huf faker Corey Gillins When Bonita Rainsdon of Delta started swimming at the West Millard Community Swimming Pool she never thought she would even swim 10 miles Bonnie has become a But instead faithful lap swimmer and has just completed 150 miles of accumulative swimming on March 10 Bonnie is not going to stop at 150 miles Her next goal Good job is the 200 mile mark Bonnie! Good news for all of you swimmers who like to go swimming after school starting at 3:30 pm The pool will continue to be open at 3:30 pm until school is out even though the Delta Torpedoes age group swim team has started practicing again The swim team will use three pool lanes for practicing and the rest of the pool will be used for open swimming Tell your friends that the pool will still be open at 3:30 pm Plan to join the pool’s 8th birthday celebration on Saturday March 21 There will be free swimming and free refreshments for everyone from 12 noon to 5:00 pm Saturday April 11 the pool will be holding its fourth Annual Patio Plant Sale Instead of throwing away the plants you thin from your yard the pool management asks that you donate the plants to the plant sale All these plants are sold at the sale for a very small fee The proceeds from the sale go for improving the pool patio These plants grow very well because they are acclimated to this area and soil conditions There is a variety of plants from which to choose: perrenials ground covers shrubs and trees Delta City softball meetings Sharon Koyle has been chosen to represent MHS as English Sterling Scholar She has a grade point average of 396 Sharon has placed in many Essay and Literature Contests some clude 1st place in American Legion Essay Contest (local region state and national) 2nd place for 2 years in Farm Bureau Essay Contest and 3rd in PTA Reflections Contest Sharon attended Girls State and has served as Sophomore and Junior Class President She is currently serving as Student and FHA Reporter Body Sharon has added a lot to MHS Lori Stevens will be this years Science Sterling Scholar She has a 38 gpa in Science Lori has won many honors in the Science Field She has attended three International Science Fairs She organized this years Science Fair for the Middle School and will also be organizing the Science Fair at the High School She has also been active in Drill Team for 3 years and has served as an FHA Officer for 2 years Lori has many attributes which have added to MHS Sheri Kay Christensen will represent MHS as Business Sterling Scholar Sheri has served as the Pres and also the Secretary of the Future Business Leaders of America She brought local bankers to MHS for a week long seminar for FBLA members and she is currently taking minutes for the illmore City Planning Commission weekly for some of her projects She as Executive has also served Cheerleader and other class offices Sheri Kay is a member of the National Honor Society and has a gpa in her category of 40 Sheri is a great “debit” to MHS! Shaunna Huffaker will be this years Foreign Language Sterling Scholar Shaunna has taken Spanish for 2 years She is currently teaching for Fine Arts about various Foreign Countries She has been a member of the Academic Decathlon for 2 years In this time she has won four medals two in Fine Arts one in economics and one in Math She also serves as Jr Statesman Reporter and FBLA Historian Shaunna contributes a lot to MHS Heather Bristow has been chosen to represent MHS as Social Science Sterling Scholar She has a gpa of 38 in her category Some of her achievements are as follows: organized the Junior Statesman Club and represented MHS as Youth Senator at Economics ConHeather is also active as ference of the Future Business Reporter Leaders of America President of the French Club and the Senior Class She has also done volunteer work at the State House Heather is a great asset to our school and community Corey Gillins has been selected as this years Mathematics Sterling Scholar Corey is very active in Athletics He has lettered in football basketball and track He was a team captain of this uears basketball team Corey is also a member of the National He is planning on Honor Society teaching a Math course at the Elementary School for one of his projects Corey is a great contribution to MHS is the Stevens Cheryl Her Sterling Scholar Homemaking gpa is 396 She has done a lot of projects in her area Some of her projects include making pound puppies for the program making a baby quilt for the 1st baby born during National FHA Week teaching cake decorating classes for 2 years and taking blood pressures for the Senior Citizens Cheryl holds the offices of FHA Vice President Drill Team Social Manager Historian and Pres of the local Teen Council Cheryl contributes in many ways to Millard High School Leisa Brown has been selected as the Speech and Drama Sterling Scholar Her accumulative gpa is 375 and her gpa for her area is 40 Leisa played a major role in this years schools play “And Stuff” She is currently the student director and a member of the chorus for this years musical “Cinderalla” She is also planning to help in this summers production of “The Chief Kanosh Pageant” She is also active in Drill Team and serves as the Executive Student Council Secretary Leisa is a fine attribution to MHS Doug Stott has been chosen as the Vocational Sterling Scholar He is the FFA President this year Doug has been active in FFA for 4 years During this time he has attended FFA State Convention (3 years) National FFA Convention held in Kansas City MO Washington Conference Program held in Washington DC High Individual Range Camp and other various leaderHe ship conferences and workshops has several projects which include livestock range judging workshops and He has leadership training seminar been an area winner for 3 years in Public Speaking and Parlimentary Procedure and was awarded a scholarship Florida to International to Orlando SRM Convention Doug has also been active in athletics and other various school activities Doug contributes greatly to Millard's FFA program as well as to the school Ron’E Brunson has been selected as this years Art Sterling Scholar Ron’E has participated in several Art Shows at MHS and has helped organize this years Ron'E is a very talented artist and has been an attribute to MHS The Delta City Parks and Recreation Chipmunks on the go Reflections Regional Judging Completed 120 entries were Approximately gathered at the Fillmore Middle School for the regional level of the PTA’s Reflections program Entries were sent from many areas of District 15 three Delta locals three cluding Fillmore locals and one local from Nephi The entries were in the areas of music visual arts literature and from Students photography kindergarten through high school participated The entries were judged by a point system with the top 20 scores From going to the state competition Paul Cezanne French Impressionist forced the organization of the 1987 baseball and All interested softball leagues dividuals in Delta and surrounding areas must register from March 12 to March 27 from 9 am to 5 pm Monday through Friday at the Regional Park 81 South Manzanita Ave Delta Payment must be made at time of Late registration will be registration 3 A late fee of held March $500 per youth or $2000 per team will be charged No University will compete in the NCAA national tournament in College Park Md next Thursday through Saturday (March BYU coach Alan Albright had six of his wrestlers placed in the NCAA regionals on March 7 to qualify for the nationals Five of those six are now ranked in the “Amateur Wrestling News” top 20 wrestlers Wrestlers had to reach the top two places at regionals to qualify for the nationals Society announces its annual “Daffodil Days” event The daffodil the first flower of spring is a flower of hope For the American Cancer Society it serves as the symbol of hope for a world free of cancer Beginning March 16 and continuing through March 21 American Cancer Society volunteers will deliver preordered bunches of daffodils The bunches consist of ten flowers and cost $250 They may be
