About this time of year most adults start getting fidgety sometimes knowand sometimes not It’s cause the ing inspring fever working on you to get to your spring cleaning! We’ve got an easy chore for you to start on— look for our books Sometimes the kids say “it’s at it could well be or it may have been on the shelves so long it looked right at home We plead with you to look inside the cover and see if it has our stamp The new Library Baord is seriously concerned with the large number of long overdue books in our file— running These are books into the hundreds over two months overdue They are considering a new system of book fines to bring us in line with other libraries in the state who are much more strict than we are The real problem with overdue books is that it keeps someone else from having the opportunity to enjoy them Your assistance would be Thank you! very much appreciated For Fun Reading One of the new autobiographies published in 1986 which is great to read is “One More Time” by Carol Burnett The book tells of her early life but is written as a long letter to her three children skipping the part that her children obviously know for themselves (but we don’t) We have discovered another Mrs Pollifax story in the Reader’s Digest condensed vol 3 1983 called: “Mrs And Pollifax on the China Station” for those Sadie Shapiro fans one in vol 4 Reader’s Digest Condensed 1980 “Sadie Shapiro Matchmaker” which is up to Sadie’s usual antics Book Budget Exhausted We have been so busy buying new best sellers and filling in the empty shelves that we spots on the have spent our book budget for this fiscal year We will not be buying any more new books except for the new Bicentennial Shelf for Constitution which we will purchase $500 more from the recommended list This will be done of the through the Endowment Humanities grant received lately we have already purchased our share of the $1000 Our shelves will be seeing new books all along however since we have over 900 in our store room and closet to prepare and put out in addition to several hundred Keep paperbacks coming in for new ones you won’t be disappointed! Some of the books waiting to get on the shelf were donated by patrons and will be of interest to many They are all in good condition and only need processing Patrons are encouraged to donate books to us with the understanding that if they cannot be used they may be sold at a used books sale or otherwise disposed of for the benefit of the library fund Children’s Story Hour Beginning last Tuesday we held a children’s story hour from 3:30 to 4 pm The storyteller was Bonnie Baugh a high school student at Millard who does volunteer work at the library She will be prepared each Tuesday with entertaining stories Please help us advertise this event and recommend attendance We know the program is new and different from any we have attempted in the past If the program is to continue we will need to have the children there on time Volunteers New volunteers on our staff now are: Sherry Shepard Thursday afternoon and DeVaun Mitchell on Friday afternoon The volunteers’ help will assist us in getting everything on the shelves and running smoothly about a year and a half before the usual time it takes to fill out a new library We very much appreciate their help with processing and arranging books Literacy Program The Library has received the first stallment on the program to help adults as a second language or to learn to read the English language better Equipment and supplies are being ordered for Spanish speaking patrons and others will be added when requested The program will be in very small classes or one on one with video cassette tapes and other help as well as tutors Anyone interested in this project should contact the library in case we miss you on the survey We know it takes courage and determination to do a project like this but if it is ever to be accomplished a start has to be made sometime It has been decided that the survey will be confined to Fillmore City but anyone in the entire area is welcome to join in Classes will likely be ready to begin toward the end of March Get your name on the list and we will call you when details are settled There is no cost to the program —See you in the librar-y- living again They had lived in Wright previous to moving to Texas Her husband Roy was called back to work as a mechanic at the mines Moving isn’t fun but the Bartons will now be close to home We are happy to receive word that Sue Koyle is improving following major surgery at LDS Hospital in Salt Lake City Best wishes Sue |
