Show - LIBRARY NEWS By Gwen Hunter Librarian Thurs Apr ISPS Millard County 17 1986 - Page 7 Community vent Named resident of the month Slate Convention The Utah State Library convention held in Park City April 9 to was Over 400 teresting and stimulating library staff members traded ideas about activities book acquisitions fund raising and general library practices Some new ideas are now in our file to try out here The new Park City Library provided tours of their new facility The old “Miner’s Hospital” was moved from its original site and restored to the with architecture original embellishments in solid oak There are three stories which house reading or research areas with the children’s area in the basement One drawback is the steep stairs between floors The handicap access reaches only the middle floor The city is landscaping a park the building with brick surrounding walkways and flower and tree plantings and seating areas interspersed Although all the rooms are small they are attractively decorated and pleasant Book Discussion Group “Let’s Talk About It” series on literature presenting the family will begin April 24 at 7:30 pm in the room at the downstairs reading Library The books are here for the first two discussions and may be checked out anytime All meetings will be led by scholar who will present information about the era of the book the setGroup ting and about the author discussion will follow The program is designed to last an hour and a half Join the group read the book come and discuss it and find out what the book REALLY SAYS Total program is free sponsored by the Utah Endowment of Humanities in cooperation with the Utah State Library New Building We promised some information on the needs of the new facility None of the inside surfaces of the Multipurpose room in which community meeting can be held is finished We need wall covering flooring and ceiling tiles In addition we hope to put in a large folding divider which will make it possible to hold two meetings at the same time This divider will cost about $3000 when it is professionally installed the drapes We have the carpet piano (which belongs to the Fine Arts) and a line on seating chairs is the serv- it next to Another room ing kitchen where groups can prepare or store refreshments for their meetings This will have fully finished surfaces on walls and floor but no cabinets or refrigerator Since the room is small it should not be too expensive to get ready We are however looking for a generous donor to furnish it for us We have received another two checks from foundations totaling $300 Their names will be enscribed on the plaque In the multipurpose room we will be able to use expert carpentry help If you can donate some time and talent please call us at the library See
