Show mww myiiyuimy Millard Counly Sugarville party suspects plead to lesser crimes Pica bargaining and the promise of immunity has resulted in confessions to lesser charges from many of the fifteen adults arrested in connection with a Dec 28 1985 party in Sugarville in which two men were charged with felony assault Millard County Sheriff’s Deputies and Delta City Patrolmen responded to a report of violence in Sugarville (between Sutherland and IPP) at about 3:00 am Dec 28 That initial based on eyewitness vestigation reports led to the arrest of Glen D Howlett 24 and Jerry Lee Howlett 18 both of Sutherland on charges of aggravated assault It was alleged the two men used an axe handle and (a martial arts weapon) in assaulting two victims at the party one of whom required eleven stitches to close a gash on the head Another man was beaten on the back and arms according to arresting officer Deputy Forrest Roper Doreen Howlett wife of Glen D was also arrested the same morning after she allegedly tried to evade police in a car she was driving which carried the other Howlett suspects A subsequent investigation of the party led police to file charges of illegal possession of alcohol by those under age 21 illegal possession of marijuana contributing to the delinquency of a minor by the adults present and a charge of “resorting" against all participants who were there while crimes were being committed Six juveniles were charged with misdemeanor illegal possession or consumption of alcohol and resorting Names of juveniles and disposition of their cases are not published based on an agreement between police and the Chronicle Progress According to court records Glen Howlett pleaded guilty to a lesser charge of misdemeanor attempted aggravated assault and was given a suspended sentence in prison $750 fine and probation of community service Jerry Howlett pleaded to a lesser crime of misdemeanor assault and was given a suspended sentence stay probation $150 fine and a in the county jail Doreen Howlett pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor reckless driving charge for dismissal of charges she attempted to evade officers and interfere with an arrest Court officials said that sentencing information on Ms Howlett was unavailable Among the other adults charged in the Dec 28 incident James Alan Lake 22 Delta and William Joseph Corbett 19 Delta were granted immunity from prosecution for testimony "in other related criminal matters" Mr Lake had been charged with resorting and contributing to the delinquency of a minor Mr Corbett had been charged with the same plus illegal possession of alcohol records state that John Court Gregory Watson 22 Delta and Danny Edward Desoto 21 Delta both pleaded guilty to lesser crimes after being charged with misdemeanor resorting and contributing to the delinquency of a minor Mr Watson was fined $100 after admitting guilt to contributing for dismissal of resorting Mr Desoto was also fined $100 under a similar arrangement Among the “underage” adults Shane Michael Marsing 11 Delta pleaded guilty to charges of resorting contributing and illegal possession of alcohol and was fined $300 and in jail plus in jail suspended Julie May Floerke 18 Delta pleaded guilty to contributing for dismissal of resorting and illegal possession of and was fined $100 Carl alcohol Overby Jr 20 Hinckley pleaded guilty to resorting contributing and illegal possession of alcohol and was fined in jail with $300 and given in jail suspended Mary DeAnn Theobald 19 Hinckley pleaded guilty to contribution and illegal possession for dismissal of resorting and was fined $200 to be paid in public service hours Cases still pending are Donna Marie Barnes 18 Delta William Troy Pace 19 Hinckley and Chad Lamor Myers 20 Delta One suspect Shane Breen pleaded not guilty to the charges Trial is pending for Mr Breen who is out on $1000 bail Two other suspects in the incident and are facing have been charges if and when they return to Millard County police said Police Blotter ) Mar 27 1986 -
