by all State targets Millard County for mineral mapping The Utah Geological and Mineral and the US (UGMS) Survey Geological Survey (USGS) are examining mineral resources of the Delta about 8000 covering guadrangle square miles mostly in Millard Juab and Tooele counties but including small areas in Utah Sanpete and Sevier counties The program which is part of the USGS Contermonous United States Mineral Assessment Program will be completed in four years Products of the program are a new geologic map of the area maps showand geophysical ing geochemical and anomalies mineral occurrences mineral potential and reports containing data and mineral resources information Remote sensing data obtained from aircraft and observations by satelhte will be extensively used Much of the data obtained will be computerized The program is staffed by and geologists geophysicists geochemists from the UGMS office in Salt Lake City and USGS office in Denver Colorado Menlo Park California Reston Virginia and Sioux Tails South Dakota The study area includes districts that had produced significant amounts of minerals in the past such as the Tintic Mining District at Eureka and the Beryllium Mine at as well as areas that Spor Mountain appear favorable for the discovery of new resources Much of the quadrangle is covered with young sediments that conceal the older rocks containing the mineral the deposit Evaluating resources underlying these covered areas is a major goal of the program A meeting of UGMS and USGS pa sonnel involved in the program held in Salt Lake City on October his to develop final program plans was followed by a field trip on October 24 Genevieve Atwood UGMS Director and State Geologist says “This pto gram will provide information usd to the mineral
