Show Page 4 The hospitals of Millard County Well here we are at that point in Millard with two new County hospitals to serve the needs of our communities These new hospitals contain the best of everything to help care for the needs of you the patient And how did we arrive at this most important point for all of us in Millard County? Let’s go back and take a short look at the Hospitals of Millard County West Millard Hospital opened April 16 1963 and was constructed without State of Federal financial aid Needed funds and In essence the labor were all donated hospital became a community project built by citizens and friends of the area West Millard Hospital was constructed by be a 36 bed facility 16 beds for acute care and 20 beds for swing care The hospital has served an area that includes the communities of Delta Hinckley Oak City Lynndyl Oasis Due to the and Garrison Leamington limited availability of funds square footage was necessarily kept to a bare minimum in construction even under the standards recommended for efficient function and work flow Ancillary and support departPharments particulary the Emergency Recovery Radiology macy Laboratory and office areas Dietary Administrative suffered acutely due to the shortage of needed space In addition to other problems that faced the hospital significant population growth and corresponding increases in the demand for health services are impacting the area because of the construction of the Power Project (IPP) All of these factors led to the appropriate decision of replacing the hospital which for over 20 years has successfully served a very needed purpose for community members The Fillmore Hospital was built in 1947 Board Message As Chairman of the combined Community Board of Trustees for the Delta and illmore Community Medical Centers it is my distinct pleasure to say how proud we members of the Board are to be part of this special event This is an important day for all of Millard County It marks the completion of a project which has been controversial challenging and difficult yet necessary if Millard County was to be in a position to adequately handle both present and future health care needs of its citizens But as is so many times the case the ending of one journey is but the start of the next And so we invite you to join with us in celebrating this event as the beginning of a new era in health care delivery in our commumties-- a time when improved facilities and services have panded our capabilities of responding to our health needs in a more comprehensive and effective manner than ever before Our goals and intentions are best outlined in the Mission Statements which have been would like to share with you at this time: prepared for each facility and which “THE DELTA AND FILLMORE COMMUNITY MEDICAL CENTERS ARE 20 BED GENERAL ACUTE PRIMARY CARE HOSPITALS OWNED AND OPERATED BY IHC HOSPITALS INC THE OF A LOCAL COMMUNITY UNDER THE DIRECTION HOSPITALS BOARD OF TRUSTEES AND CONSISTENT WITH CORPORATE GOALS ARE DEDICATED TO PROVIDING OPPOLICIES AND PROCEDURES TIMUM QUALITY PRIMARY HEALTH CARE TO THE RESIDENTS OF MILLARD COUNTY TO ACCOMPLISH THIS MISSION THE HOSPITALS WILL: PROVIDE A SETTING FOR PATIENTS TO RECEIVE BASIC PRIMARY INPATIENT OUTPATIENT HEALTH CARE THROUGH APPROPRIATE AND EMERGENCY SERVICES 2 TREATMENT SEEK TO DEFINE AND MEET THE DIAGNOSTIC AND HEALTH EDUCATION NEEDS OF THE HEALTH MAINTENANCE AND SERVICE AREA POPULATION 3 SERVE AS A SETTING TOR EDUCATION AND SUPPORT PERSONNEL WILL THE HOSPITALS FOCUS IN ADDITION APPROPRIATE RESOURCES ON THE DEVELOPMENT OF ALTERNATIVE SERVICLS INCLUDING HOME HEALTH CARE RURAL OUTREACH Cl 1N1CS AND PROGRAMS FOR THE ELDERLY HEALTH MAINTENANCE AT ALL TIMES AND TO THE FULL 1ST EXTENT POSSIBLE THE WILL BL A MAJOR FACTOR IN THE WELFARE OF THE PATIENT OF THE HOSPITALS’ ACTIVITIES DETERMINATION PROGRAMS AND DIRECTION” The dedicated efforts of many groups and individuals have brought us to this point We certainly owe our gratitude to the County Commission City Councils former Hospital District Board members generous citizens and Christ Saints The hospital was a of acute care facility that has served the Meadow residents of rillmore Holden Kanosh Scipio and Flowell The Fillmore Hospital was considered the oldest Utah health care facility without major renovation The hospital has been a long standing resource to the communities and has in fact successfully provided a needed service for the past 37 years However the deteriorating condition of the physical plant was placing severe limitations on the Hospital’s ability to continue to meet the medical needs of the The physical facility was communities deed the key point in the provision of services and programs at the hospital It had a direct negative influence not only on the patient's use of the facility but recruitment of community physicians and other October 1983 that construction of the new facilities would be funded owned and operated by IHC Hospitals Inc The construction of these new facilities has corrected the functional and structural deficiencies that have had adverse effects on patient selection resulting in utilization declines These modern facilities meet present day building standards and will allow the hospitals to meet the
