Show The annual Future Homemakers of America State Convention was held May 3 and 4 at BYU Members of the Millard Chapter who attended were: Jennifer State Speakman FHA President and Jolynn Cumour National Vice Presimings dent The members participated in the star events which included food demonstrations and sewing Jolynn Danene Perkins MarCummings garet Probert and Candace Swallow received (superior) ratings and Bobbette Bennett received a in the salads (excellent) rating Sharon Koyle and Patti category Robison received ratings in Foreign Foods and Leisa Brown received a rating in the Pies and Pastry category in the Foods Division In sewing Brenda Hatton received a rating on her tailored shorts and Jodi Wood and Lori Stevens received ratings on their dresses The girls did very well in their competitions The convention included many fun and interesting workshops Some of these were done by Mrs Gloria Probert of Job Service Julie Mace Miss Teen Utah and Jolynn Cummings National Vice President There was also a birthday cake contest and an elegant banquet FHA’s 40th Birthday celebrating There was a scholarship named for Mrs which was Robyn Kesler awarded at the banquet Jennifer was awarded the E Speakman Aileen Erickson for Scholarship outstanding homemaking skills performance and plans to pursue Home Economics in college Our chapter received the Chapter award which is the highest honor given to a chapter for the 8th year in a row We also received an award for the most elegant birthday cake which was decorated by Becky Thomas Our scrapbook was chosen to compete in the National Convention that will be held in July in Salt Lake City The girls enjoyed themselves and felt their participation and attendance were very worthwhile and satisfying The Region Track Meet was held at Dixie College The MHS May boys and girls track teams participated The boys results are as follows: Second to Cory went places Edwards in the Shot Put and Aaron Britt in the High Jump Both of them qualified for State Third place in the Javelin and Discus was taken by Greg Stewart who also qualified for State Scott Kesler took fourth place in the 300m Hurdles and qualified for State David Brown took fourth place in the Pole Vault and is State qualified The Medley Relay consisting of Aaron Britt Cory Edwards Gary Stinson and Cory Healy also took fourth place Fifth place in the High Jump was Gary Stinson who is State qualified Others who took fifth places were Kyle Wilson in the Javeline and the 400 Relay Team which consisted of Gary Kyle Wilson Jeff Rasmussen and Cory Edwards Stinson Cory Healy took sixth place in the 3200 Run and Aaron Britt took sixth place in the Javelin Gary Stinson qualified for State in the 100 Meter Dash Girls results are: Second place in the Long Jump was Julie Hunter who qualified for State in both the Long Jump and High Jump Third place was taken in the 1600 by Beckie Freeman Meter Run She also took sixth place in the 3200 Meter Run and qualified for State in both of these events Sherlyn Swallow took fourth place in the 800 Meter Run and is State Kris Fowler took sixth qualified place in the Discus We would like to congratulate at BYU Invitational Earns Masters Degree at Utah State University Mary Monroe Sctpio has completed requirements for a master of science degree in home economics and consumer education at Utah State University logan She is the daughter of Lamar and Gwen Monroe Seipio and attended Millard High School in illmore She received her bachelor of science degree in home economics from Utah State University in 1981 Monroe specialized in supervision and curriculum development and did her masters thesis on the relationship between teacher variables and student in family relations achievement parenting classes While at Utah State she was awarded the Widtsoe Graduate Fellowship Award and was a graduate assistant in the office of the dean College of Family life She was also active in the Utah tercollegiate Assembly served on the ASUSU Housing Committee and the ASUSU Athletics Committee At present Monroe is employed at Economics Home the American Association in Washington DC as
