Show Page 6 Millard County LISPS Thurs Nov 8 PUSH 1984 Republicans sweep straw poll Parent-Teach- conferences er set for Nov 14 conferences will be held the afternoon and evening of Nov 14 in the high school cafeteria then on Nov 20 a special program will be held which is generating a lot of enthusiasm Principal Simmons has been involving all areas of the high school in preparation for “Your High School on Parade” another form of Back to School Night On Nov 20 this program will come together at 7:00 PM in the auditorium The Show Choir will present a preprogram for 15 minutes prior to the opening assembly “It is open up to the whole public to show all of the positive things that are happening in the school and classrooms said Mr Simmons In the opening assembly PTA Presi dent Rosmary Larson will present what the PTA’s goals objectives and plans are for the school year She will also call for public support in the demanding role of secondary schools Mr Simmons will introduce the new staff and give a welcome “I will be calling for a absolutely needed community support in bettering our school and striving for academic excellence” Also on the program are the A Choir a drama presentation and the TriDels Following the opening program from 7:30 to 8:30 will be program visitations in most of the classrooms Each department will have a certain display of their techniques during this period Afterward refreshments will be served at 8:45 in the cafeteria 3QSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS3SSSSSSSSSSSSS9SSSSS5 Delta North Elementary In The News SssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssU Mrs Preston spotlighted Delta North Elementary salutes Mrs Mary Preston one of our three fourth grade teachers This is Mrs Preston’s first year at Delta North and we welcome her to our staff Mrs Preston taught fourth grade at Delta South Elementary last year Mrs Preston enjoys watching children learn She enjoys the role she plays in the learning process She is particularly interested in Utah History and was instrumental in arranging the “Mountain Man” Assembly that students enjoyed recent- Arkansas A meeting of PUSH (Parents Urging Special Help) will be held November 14 at 7:30 in the Conference Room of the Delta City Office Building Special guest speaker will be Jean Nash Project Director of the Utah Parent Information and Training Center for Parents of Handicapped Children The Utah Parent Center was organized by parents to help them learn about the rights of the handicapped children to a free and appropriate public education and to help them work most effectively with their child’s team All interested parents are encouraged to attend this special meeting Republicans Rule! The Halloween Carnival hosted at the school on Halloween night was The halls a whopping success Auditorium stage and Lunch Room were decorated in Carnival style for the event Teachers Room Mothers and PTA Board were responsible for the Those attending evenings activities thoroughly enjoyed themselves Popular Booths included the Fish Pond Grab Bag Sponge Toss and Cake and Cookie Walk The fundraiser brought in more than $140000 We thank the public for their support We especially thank all those who 'spent many long hours planning preparing working and cleaning up Already we are looking forward to next year’s event!! She has learned a lot about little are very different from girls” Mrs Fowles enjoys yard work sewing cooking and tole painting She also enjoys watching high school sports When asked what especially football she enjoyed most about teaching Mrs Fowles responded “Children at this age are so eager to learn They are always finding new ways to express themselves and they have so much to tell Teaching kindergarten has been compared to keeping 30 corks under water at the same time howr true!" Mr Sorensen brought with him the skins and hides of several animals he has trapped throughout the western USA and Canada His hunting and trapping gear was most interesting To Mr conclude his presentation Sorensen fired his trusty shotgun to the surprise and delight of the entire student body It took about one hour for the smoke and smell to clear the room His presentation was enjoyable and memorable We invite him back Pictured back L to R: Paul Dewsnup John Travis Stanley Kelly Darroch Lisonbee and Katie Allred Front L to Halloween Carnival a ments) Mountain man Scott Sorensen visits Delta North On Friday November 2 1984 Delta North fourth graders were entertained by Scott Sorensen a real live modern Man Mr Sorensen day Mountain visited with the Delta Middle School earlier in the day The assembly was geared for the fourth graders’ study of Utah History Mr Sorensen a Utah native thrilled the 78 students with his personal histories slide presentation and tall tales Mr Sorensen recounted the story of Jedediah Smith and his famous scrap with the great bear the story of Jim Bridger and many others to the spellbound audience He also gave a demonstration of how to remove a scalp!
