Show Page 2 Millard County USPS Comments This ugly weather sure makes me nesty I just want to curl up by the fireplace and knit But before I started my new knitting project I finished the hunting vest for Lewis (which I have been informed by Dennis did not have little bullet pockets - it had little shell pockets) in time for the opening I must have done a fairly good job because he bagged some ducks I got to tend Chelsie while her folks hunted so I whipped up her and Brahm little vests from the scraps Chelsie won’t wear hers and Brahm’s was too small So much for sewing for awhile now I am knitting a sweater for Shellie Sunday I embarked on the terrible ordeal of finding the bedroom floor which has been missing for quite sometime I do a lot of stacking on the floor as I have been short on drawer space So awhile back I bought a lovewith lots of ly piece of furniture drawers from Wise Bargains and Sunday I decided it was time to get things straightened up cleaned up and put away It took most of the day and Dennis kept checking on me to see I was still alive and well I have had this arrangement with the fine selection of dust that accumulates around the house that I won’t bother it if it doesn’t bother me And as broke the arrangement I spent the day sniffling sneezing and coughing Now have everything so neat and tidy can’t find my clothes and Samson wanders around sniffing and wondering what happened to the piles of things he used to stir around and sleep on hate to start any of that cleaning business because if one room gets cleaned it makes all the rest look bad and there isn’t a weekend long enough to get from one end of the house to the other Besides I’d rather knit I wasn’t ready for this cold snap but then I wouldn’t be ready if it started But we Dec 31st and ended Jan charmer of music follow merely Snake the Thurs 18 Oct 1984 - n Theft of cable services really aren’t ready as we have daddled with the back door building project leaving quite a gaping hole and my plumber and bricklayer seem to have abandoned us The door project has had it’s ups and downs but it will be a magnificant speciman when we get through Most people would just go buy a new sulated door but then most people have standard sized doors As we don’t we had the option of an expensive custom made door or custom making our own After one time through with the project it hasn’t turned out to be that tough of a job I might even undertake making one for the front door but it will be awhile before I get into the hunting vest business again The plumbing isn’t as critical as getting the plumbing done so we can finish the insulating We ripped the old bathroom right back to the studs as it has been a fright for years and there is no sense to finishing one project before We seem to be in we start another chronic remodel but we needed an even dozen indoor projects for the winter so why not the bathroom? I hope we get it done before the kids grow up and leave home because it would be so nice not to be in a constant state of back log' waiting on a primping teenager cobras with charm really and are deaf Snake pipe nake charmer of the motion do not their the Briar Patch 25 N 200 W Delta We will be open until 9 pm for MOONLIGHT MADNESS Wednesday evening Oct 17 1984 Dresses & Tops on Sale ALSO: Children’s dresses coming in for Xmas THURSDAYS & FRIDAYS ONLY NEW HOURS 10 am to 7 pm Front Row: L to R Nina Hazel Mither Hettie Roper Johnson Back Row: Alice Lester Bert Mary Mary and Effie Johnson are the daughters of Walter and Hettie Roper Johnson They grew up in Lynndyl Mary married Lile Johnson and Effie married William Johnson so they are still the Johnson sisters Walter and Hettie Johnson moved to from their farm in Leamington Lynndyl where they had land and greater opportunities for work in 1916 Walter died a month after the family moved leaving the mother with eight house and a children a farm The brave mother managed the best she could with the help of the children her sons Lester Bert and Max and her husband’s brother Peter whom she later married It was necessary to haul water for the family in barrels in a wagon from the railroad well Everyone in town got water from that well Lynndyl was a busy railroad town Many came there looking for work in the shops the roundhouse or on the railroad crews There were also bootleggers and gamblers The widowed mother alone with her children on the outskirts of Lynndyl kept a gun by her bed but the children felt safe and secure with their great mother The children played and were content They built houses with the tall spreading Russian thistles that grew everywhere they rode their mother’s washtijb in the canal careful to not let it tip over For a special treat the mother hooked up the horses with Lester’s help and with some hay and old quilts in the wagon bed the family went early in the morning to Oak City for a visit Uncles Aunts with the Grandmother and cousins They would stay until late when the mother would afternoon gather up the children to the wagon turn the team toward home reaching there just after dark The family finally got a well and built a good home The children walked to school along the railroad tracks One time they saw We have an OUTSTANDING 1 HUSBANDS Buy your wife a Gift Certificate to our reducing fitness center She’ll be in great shape when you return from the hills HOURS Mon Tues Wed Thurs 9 3 9 3 Fri 9 Sat 9 am pm am pm am am to 1 pm to 7 pm to 1 pm to 7 pm to 1 pm to 11 am a man lying by the tracks They decided he must be asleep When they came home after school the man was still there so they went to the depot and reported The station master came and found the dead man Lynndyl had a dance hall called the “Princess” a man’s clothing store a store that sold everything a movie house with a gas engine that provided the power to play the silent movies Sometimes the kids probably those who didn’t have a ticket would go out and turn the engine off and it had to be cranked up again so the show could go on A Mrs Lund played the piano while the show was going soft and slow in the gentle places and loud and fast when it was exciting There was a two room school house in those early years with classes to the 6th grade and some good teachers one for the There was an outhouse girls and one for the boys out back For the thirsty there was a bucket of water on a water bench and a tin cup tied to it with a string In 1916 and 1917 when the first world war was on the train agent knew when the troop trains were coming through School would be let out and all the children would stand by the tracks and watch the soldiers on their way to war The men would be at the windows and on the observation platform as many as could crowd in Sometimes they threw out little hard-- ‘ tack biscuits with the soldier’s name and address written on them They remember the flu epidemic of 1918 There were so many sick folks that the Princess dance hall was turned into a hospital The good mother Hettie provided a lot of the bedding quilts and sheets for the improvised hospital The railroad company provided the beds All the sick went there to be cared for Cora Paxton came there as a nurse at this time and stayed in Lynndyl Eight people died of the flu in that 1918 epidemic Mary and Effie have pleasant memories of growing up in Lynndyl While your ’Dear’ is hunting come have lunch or dinner with us at the 864-212- Effie Early life in Lynndyl Deer Hunters Special for all widows "Body Shoppe" 152 East 100 North Delta -
