President Oardncr of the senate presided at the Joint session of the legislature on Tuesday, Tues-day, when the governor presented his message, the reading of which oecu pled about two hours, the governor being liberally applauded ut the conclusion con-clusion of the reading. The first of the liquor bills that will probably be Introduced at the present session was presented to the house by Morris of Washington. It provides pro-vides for an amendment to the law of 1909 and Is designed to change the provision o the old law with regard to vine gro era. Mr. Morris alto Introduced In-troduced a bill providing for an ap-I ap-I propria! ion of $3,000 for roads and I bridges in Washington county. I The house passed senate bill No. 1, providing for an appropriation of $3,V IMM for the expenses of the present legislature. The Western I'nlon Telegrnph company com-pany was granted permission to establish es-tablish a branch office adjacent to the house. The only other business taken up j by the senate Tuesday was the with- Idniwal of the resolution Introduced by William of Salt Lake relative to the engrossing of bills. The lawinak ers will be In session for sixty days, and possible longer. Henry W. Gardner of I'tah county has been chosen president of the senate, sen-ate, while K. W. Koblnson of Ctwhe county was the choice of the members mem-bers for speaker of the house. In the senate there are sixteen Republicans Re-publicans and two Democrats, while . in the house there are thirty eight Republicans Re-publicans and seven Democrats. While there will undoubtedly be the usual flood of bills introduced in both branches of the legislature at the present session, and there will be presented pre-sented four measures In which all of the people are vitally Interested. The liquor question will most likely be among the first of the Important matters to be considered. Practically every Republican senator and member sf Hie .louse of representatives, w hen asked what the liquor legislation would likely be, says that the pledges as contained in the party platform Mil be carried out.
