Show 2172 2 HIETT E MELD DIES IH IN SALT WL LAKE bishop hiett E maxfield died in salt lake city monday evening sep ith to fo lowing an operation lie ile had bad been in poor health tor for a number ot of years and the immediate cause wt death was heart failure bishop maxfield was very ent in millard county he occupied many important positions in political affairs having held the position of county commissioner tor for two terms for one of which he was endorsed by both parties at the time of hia ills death he was a member of the board of ot education of millard county president of the melville irrigation company member of the board of supervisors of millard county drain age district four lie ile was president of the delta state bank tor for several years beside his pollyl cal activities ha had been bishop dishop of the delta ward tor for many years until its growth necessitated a division in to two wards he ile was deeply rever ed by the leopla peo aliett E maxfield was born lu III salt lake city february ath 1859 and was seventy two years old at the time of his death lie ile very early moved to wayne county where he lie was bishop tor for twenty years on re turning from there this summer he told the writer that it was fifty six years since he first went to wayne county ills his death will be greatly mourned in that region II 11 E maxfield came to delta first on a scouting trip about 1908 and the next year returned to settle he ile went through all the hardships of our early community life the first and second leaking breaking of 0 tha the dam the loss of crops bank failures drouth burning of the delta high school but stood every one of our blows sto icalla never daunted but evers ever triv ing to his utmost in our behalf As a public officer whose life was de bolted not to gain but to service his loss loiss will be felt by all he ile Is survived by his aldow mrs ruth Al axfield and by the following children clyde archie mrs del bert searle mrs ethel St answorth irs willis savage and miss helen maxfield funeral services were held at del ta on thursday where a great con concourse assembled to show their respects at his last rites we wish to pay our tribute to the sterling worth ot of this most excell enit man in a long life he won many staunch friends and held them ilia ills integrity was unquestioned always plain always sincere always hum blo he lie handled the most difficult affairs with skill shill and decision ha ila never sought self his ills passing will be deeply felt in all the various ca he tilled filled so well |
