Show Millard County Chronicle Ti 7 1 UOUMHdWH By INEZ RIDING ADVERTISING PAYS The Chronicle was hardly off the press last week when Ned Church, Director of the Millard County Resource Re-source Development Association, called Glen Crawford and offered to hire him as a bonafide tourist guide. Advertising is wonderful! Hours and salary and things like that were discussed. Ned says that he told Glen the job paid $100.00 a month and Glen replied "Heck, that won't even feed my horse." Ned assured Glen that the association associ-ation would take care of his ohrse so from what I understand this week Glen is giving the offer some of his best consideration. (Whatever (What-ever that means!) Peggy Overson, Kirt's (better) half, is really wanting to meet Glen and have him list some of the fun spots in the county. She thinks if the fun spots look real fun then she's going to promote a Polack Reunion in the county. Are there other Polacks around? Drop Peggy a note or see her in person. If you don't know Peggy look for a gal with short blond hair, twinkling eyes and an upturned up-turned nose that wrinkles plea-satly plea-satly when she smiles-and that's DESERET Mr. and Ms. Larry Brower and three sons of Salt Lake spent the Easter weekend at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Cuman Cropper. Carole Warnick was hostess to the Deseret Rook Club at her home Thursday evening. A lovely luncheon lunch-eon was served and the rest of the evening was enjoyed with playing Rook. Members present were Bessie Bes-sie Webb, Lucile Hales, Jackie Black,, Elaine Moody, Lucile Sampson, Samp-son, Mar Genne Rowley, Delores Ogden, Arprilla Scow. His friends were delighted and one called him about 3:00 a.m. and asked for directions to the Great Stone Face. Well, Glen's answer was a classic one, from all I hear. But hardly printable in a family newspaper! Eric Nielson, from up Lynndyl way, is one of those delighted that Millard County is going to have a real live tourist glide. And he's pushing for Glen to accept. MY CARD OF THANKS I surely do appreciate all the friendly little letters and notes we've received lately from subscribers. sub-scribers. General deer season will open October 18; by law this season must open on the-Saturday closest to October 20 each year. Archery deer season will open August 23 and will continue thru September 7. This season was set by the Board of Big Game Control last June at their annual executive session. For the bird hunting enthusiasts the first season will be the dove hunt which opens on September 1, 1969. September 27 marks the opening date for ehukars, Hungarian Partridge, Par-tridge, cottontail, forest grouse and sage grouse. The fall wild turkey hunting season sea-son is scheduled to open October 4, although this date is tentative due to possible conflicts with other outdoor out-door activities. Pheasant season, the most popular popu-lar bird hunt will open on November Novem-ber 1. Quail season opens concurrently concur-rently with pheasant season. Duck season will not be set until late August. Cancer Society Fund Drive Begins Today The West Millard Chapter of the American Cancer Society reports that the 1969 drive for funds in the area begins April 17 (today) and continues through May 1. Chapter officers are Amelia Cola, Chairman; Ruth Bergreen, Vice Chairman and Service Chairman; LaVonne Morrison, Education Chair man; Crusade Chairman, Kathryn Humphries; Sec. and Treas., Louise Allen. Medical Advisors are Dr. M. A. Lyman and Dr. M. E. Bird. Dr. Lyman says this week that an aura of hope pervades the American Cancer Society's offices and the general public. He says that no claims of miraculous cancer can-cer cures are being made or even predicted. But, nonetheless, there is a distinct feeling the battle against the dread diseaseis slowly but surely being won, he points out. Dr. Lyman says that the reason of this hopeful feeling can be found in many areas. As an example, Dr. Lyman points out that the number of Americans alive and cured of cancer had grown to 1,500,000, a hunrded thousand higher than the year before. Dr. Lyman also lists the dis coveries of new drugs as another reason for the hopefulness of winning win-ning the battle against cancer. Thees new drugs, he says, along with more efficient utilization of earlier drugs plus more specific techniques have helped a number of leukemia patients live beyond five years. This program has convinced con-vinced scientists and the medical profession that a cure for leukemia may be found sooner than for many other types of cancer. Other life-saving factors, the doctor notes, are the increasing awareness by women of the value of the annual Pap test for uterine cancer and the slow but steady recognition by the public of the need for regular physical checkups. "Even with these strides, however, how-ever, the battle still has a long way to go. Research must be intensified in-tensified and carefully channeled, but there's a glimmer of light in the horizon," Dr. Lyman concludes. The 1969 theme for the American Cancer Society is "Help Yourself With a Checkup and Others With a Check." 7.500 Read It In The CHRONICLE USAIR FORCE THE AEROSPACE TEAM yoof heal AJr Fore Rtcnrit EE KITE! with fill up hi in r m service tenrer DELTA, BONE EQUIPMENT CO.
