MttffJ ' ma CHICKS L, kksicJ Liillm a Many pet shops are selling the plush varieties of rabbit, duckling arid chick this year, as humane societies remind the nation that live ones are unsuitable gifts. The animal protection groups warn parents that children soon tire of the live creatures, which become sick and die through lack of proper care. Stuffed plush animals, on the other hand, are among the most curable and carefree of children's gifts, providing objects of affection that last for years. 1988 SCRAPBOOK- (Continued from front page) donations. Ward Moody, president of the club, states that his group met with the Delta City Council to assist with the planning for the park's beautification. "Many criticisms are now being received because of horse corrals within the city limits," he noted. The extra large horse corral at 48 West 100 South has been the source of numerous complaints from adjoining home owners, according ac-cording to Mr. Gardner and Mr. Parry. "We were marked down by the judges for the southwest corn er around Main and Center, also" said Mr. Parry. There are still i lot of old buildings, weeds and eyesores which need the cooperative coopera-tive efforts of all of us he noted. Almost every block has some old delapidated farm machinery, an old car, or an old shack which would be better hauled off to the junk yard. Last year Delta City police cooperated with the city council in serving notice to owners own-ers of derelict vehicles where pre- vious kindly suggestions failed to ehct cooperation. Mr. Parry announced the appointment ap-pointment of Mayor Richard S. Morrison as new publicity chairman chair-man for the Delta City beautification beautifica-tion steering committee. Mayor Morrison, who has his own photographic photo-graphic equipment, has already been taking pictures and an interesting in-teresting season is assured as pictures of "before and after" unroll un-roll from his camera. H Continued from front page) Unrelated to Mr, Fisher's visit but Interesting, nevertheless, is a story told by Delta's mayor, Richard Rich-ard S. Morrison. Mayor Morrison relates that Mr. Stearns used to drive out to the ranch during the 1930's in his Lincoln Zephyr, a fast 12 cylinder car of those days. Mayor Morrison recalls discussing Mr. Stearns fast driving habits with Union Pacific Agent at the time, J.C. Seivert. Mr. Seivert told the mayor that he had asked Mr. Stearns if he thought it safe to drive his Zephyr at 100 miles an hour. Mr. Stearns answered that it was OK because he had Lifeguard tubes In his tires. "We thought he would probably break his fool neck," Mayor Morrison says today, "because "be-cause even perfectly safe tires can't be a guarantee of safety at such high speeds as Mr. Stearns used to drive. However, he never had any car accident, that I know of."
