Hinckley, a member of the Council of Twelve Apostles of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (Mormon) (Mor-mon) in Salt Lake City, will be the featured speaker Saturday and Sunday, January 6-7, during a quarterly conference of the Church's Deseret Stake. Elder Hinckley has coordinated the world-wide missionary program pro-gram of the Church since 1951. For 13 years before that, he supervised su-pervised the radio programs, publicity pub-licity and mission literature of the Church. Santa made his visit at the Christmas program Saturday evening. even-ing. A very large crowd was in attendance at-tendance to se3 the children all take part on the program. There were almost as many visitors as ward members. The program wai very good and afterwards Santa listened to the children's Christmas wishes and presented each one with a sack of candy and nuts and an orange. On Sunday evening the ward choir directed by Arprilla Scow and accompanied on the organ and piano pi-ano by Winona Dutson, presented the program. It was really outstanding. out-standing. I didn't realize we had such a good choir. Solo parts were beautifully sung by Carol Cropper and JacKie Black and a lovely duet was sung by Martha Mace and M.l-den M.l-den Scow. Kiwanis Club Elects for 1962 Delta-West Millard Kiwanis Club met Thursday evening at Hatch's City Cafe where they held their annual an-nual Christmas party and also installation in-stallation of mw officers for 19G2. Installed as president for 1962 was Milden Scow, Deseret. To , serve with him are Willis Morrison, vice president, and Wayne Soren-sen, Soren-sen, secretary and treasurer. Directors Dir-ectors are LaVerl (Spug) Sperry, Keith Dalton, Leigh Maxfield and Robert Riding. Dr. McRae Cloward, Lt. Governor of Division Seven, conducted the installation ceremonies. Dr. Cloward is with the College of Southern Utah at Cedar City. Dinner waas served to twenty-eight twenty-eight members and their wives, Dr. and Mrs. Cloward, Kiwanis International Inter-national Trustee LeRoy Olsen and Mrs. Olsen, of Provo. Each lady was presented with a rhinestone bow pin with the Kiwanis Ki-wanis emblem. A new grandson for Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Mitchell, Delta, is the baby boy born Dec. 25 to Delbert and Merl Gowers Mitchell, at Wlnne-mucca, Wlnne-mucca, Nev. This is the second son for the young couple, who visited in Delta Sunday with their parents, and returned to Winnemucca just ahead of the stork. . Harold Snow, studying dentistry at the University of California medical med-ical school at Berkeley, Calif., is home for the Christmas holidays with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. J.H. Snow. The family was in Salt Lake City Saturday for a visit with their daughter-in-law, Mrs. Betty Snow, and two sons and young daughter. MRS. EDNA CHRISTENSEN help take care of their father, Al bert Warner who has been ill and who passed away Christmas day. We all extend our sympathy to these folks In the death of their father but feel that it was a blessing bless-ing he could go. The funeral will be held in Fillmore, Thursday morning mor-ning and burial will be in Salt Lake City. Ira Lee Cropper spent the weekend week-end with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Cum an Cropper. Mr. and Mrs. Larry Brower spent a night at the home of Cuman Cropper on their way to Las Vegas to spend Christmas. Mr. and Mrs. Phil Eliason and family got moved into their other home in time for Santa's visit. He seemed to know they had moved so the children weren't disappointed disappoint-ed Christmas morning. Mr. and Mrs. Verd Davis spent Christmas out of town this year visiting with their children in Salt Lake and Grantsville. Gaylyn Cropper is expecting her cousin Pat Yarbrough from Roy to visit her a few days this week. Nancy Elack was home from Salt Lake to spend Christmas with her folks, Mr. and Mrs. Dean Black. iwas also here. I understand Nancy got a diamond for Christmas. Eva Alice Robison was down cake, pop corn balls and fruit Emil Pearson came from Delta to visit Bill Crafts, Earl Christensen Christen-sen and Cunian Cropper. He came to give them a box of chocolates and a hair cut. He is a very thot-ful person. lie has given many haircuts over the years to men folks who were home bound and I am sure they have all been grateful to him for it. Phil Christensen spent from Thursday afternoon till Sunday night in Salt Lake Cdy. The Homer Jensen family were happy to have Mr. and Mrs. Victor Roberts as company during the past week. Rae and Bonnie made a trip on Wednesday with them to Minersvil'e where they visited with friends and relatives and returned with grandmother Susa Roberts who is ST years old and enjoying RECORD HOP DANCE FRIDAY There is a Record Hop Dance Friday Fri-day night, at Hinckley school gym, opening at 9 p.m., to music of Ray Bishop, disc jockey. She was recently graduated from IBM school and early had her certificate from PBX. She will return to Salt Lake City where she is employed after the New Year. Mr. and Mrs. Leo Randolph and 3-months old daughter, Melinda Dee, of Phoenix, Ariz., are visiting in Delta through the holidays with their parents, Mr. and Mrs. Clayton Clay-ton Giles. Mrs. Randolph is the former Carolyn Giles, and this is the first visit with her grandparents for her infant daughter. Mr. and Mrs. Glen Seegmiller and son Richard left Delta Friday after the close of school to drive to Oak-' land, Calif., for the Christmas week ! with their son David and his wife, j Jean, and their family of two boys and twe girls. This is the first j visit with their youngest grand daughter, three months old. Mr. and Mrs. Garn Moody are spending tno holidays at Daly City. San Francisco, with their daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Ronald Ron-ald Faulker, and children, Ronnee, Tyler and Drew. Christmas week visitors in Delta are Mr. and Mrs. Douglas Robison, of Provo, and family of four daughters daugh-ters and young son. Christmas visitors with Mrs. Hazel Ha-zel Gronning were her son, Dr. Gerard Ger-ard Judd, and wife and family of eight children, who arrived Friday from Austin, Texas. They left early Wednesday on their return trip, after a visit in Mesa, Ariz., with Mrs. Judd's family. Dr. Judd is a chemist with Jef f ei son Chemical Co. engaged in research projects. He has served as Sunday School Superintendent Super-intendent in his LDS ward at Austin and later was bishop. Riding had word Friday evening that a jetliner crash in Turkey claimed the life of Mrs. Riding's sister, Mrs. La Verne Pyland Miller. She and her husband, Floyd Miller, Mil-ler, with the US Air Force, were among the 27 killed out of 34 persons per-sons aboard the British European Airways (EEA) Comet IVB Jetliner to Tel Aviv, Israel, which crashed and exploded in a snowstorm seconds sec-onds after take-off Thursday night, according to the UPI report from Ankara, Turkey Dec. 22. Mrs. M Her was a school teacher on overseas assignment. Mr. and Mrs. Riding left Delta Monday afternoon to drive to Caraway, Cara-way, Arkansas, where funeral services ser-vices were scheduled later in the week for Mrs. Miller. ELDER ROBERT KENT GARDNER Mission Call A farewell testimonial in honor of Elder Robert Kent Gardner will be held Sunday, Dec. 31, at 7:30 p.m. in Delia Third Ward Chapel. A cordial invitation to attend is extended to his many friends. Elder Gardner has been called to serve in the Norwegian Mission, Church of Jesus Chr'st of Latter-day Latter-day Saints. He enters the mission home in Salt Lake City January 8 for training prior to his departure. He is a son of Mrs. Alice I. Gardner Gard-ner of Delta and the late Clair F. Gardner. Home for Christmaas with their parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ray Western were Mr. and Mrs. Phil Gersten and Donald Western, Salt Lake City, and Mr. and Mrs. Richard Munson and young daughter, Reno, Nev. Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Pace, of Salt Lake City, visited in Delta Christmas Christ-mas with their nieces and husbands, hus-bands, Mr. ind Mrs. Keith Dalton and Mr. and Mrs. Max Humphries, and daughters. They had dinner at the Dalton home. Mr. and Mrs. Just'n Smith of Provo were Delta visitors Saturday, while Mrs. Smith conducted her classes at Eileen's School of Dancing. The dancing school will not meet Dee. 30, Mrs. Smith said, but will resume sessions Jan. 6. Mrs. Madge Christensen has a new grandchild, with the arrival of the daughter born Dec. 24 to Mr. and Mrs. Scott Christensen, in Salt Lake City, whose family now numbers num-bers two boys and two girls. f r t SEASON'S GREETINGS to friends and fellow citizens are extended herewith along with a contribution to West Millard Hospital Association Associa-tion for the building fund. Federal Aviation Agency, Delta Municipal Airport, Station Personnel The Christmas program in Sunday Sun-day School was very good. Norma Skeem's class gave a reading; Phyl lis Anderson's class, a poem; Ethel Stanworih's class, Rosemary Rose-mary Ludwig gave a story while the rest of the class placed figures of the Holy Land on the flannel board. Irene Stanworth's class gave musical numbers; Michael Styler played a piano solo; Vin Memmott played the accordion and Rex and Jim Stanworth sang, and Delene Skeem played the ac-cordian. ac-cordian. A song was given out of Martin Ludwlg's class, and Roger Stanworth Stan-worth and Sue Willoughby played a duet. From the adult class, Louenza Wllloughby's class, Ber-dell Ber-dell Memmott played the harmonica. harmon-ica. Howard Roundy gave a few remarks. At sacrament meeting the program pro-gram was given by Mrs. Betsy Skeem's family. Ralph Skeem talked; Betsy Skeem, a story; Mark Skeem played his horn; Gary Wiley played the accordian; Gayla Jeffery played a flute; Brenda Skeem played the piano; Brent and Shirley Skeem sang a duet. A very lovely program was given. Sunday night Mrs. Betsy Skeem had her family home for dinner and they all exchanged Christmas Christ-mas gifts. Present were Shirley and Ralph Skeem, Norma and Arlo Skeem, and families, Harold Skeem, Eldro and Leona Jeffery, Thurlow and Inez Wiley, Russell and Elaine Knight, and families. All enjoyed the evening. Ella and Celia Christensen went around Christmas morn'ng visiting little children and wishing people good cheer. The drawing at the Leo Day Store gave a Merry Christmas to Mr. and Mrs. Carl Stanworth, Mr. and Mrs. Keith Stanworth and Mr. Max Cahoon. All three ne:ghbors were very happy. Keith Stanworth, who works at Brown, Nevada, spent Christmas at home with his family. Leo Day had his sister, Mrs. Edna Ide, of Orem, here to visit him. Merna Stanworth had some visitors, vis-itors, her sister Don and friend. Sam. Erie Gillen came home Friday to surprise his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Deon Cillen. Eric has been going to school in Ventura, Calif., and returns there Dec. 28. Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Skeem and family, Evan, Delene and Lee, had turkey dinner with Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Justesen and family. Other members of the family there were Mr. Parley Elder, Oak City, Mr. and Mrs. Stan Bradfield and family, Leamington, Hr. and Mrs. Tom McCormick and family, Delta, Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Anderton and Mr. and Mrs. Jim McCormick. They had the whole f amll ytogether, with 28 members present. All enjoyed the evning and program of music and a reading by Ralph Anderton. Several members enjoyed the school program. The building was filled with parents and lovely programs pro-grams were given. A lot of work had been done by the teachers and students to put forth such a wonderful won-derful program. LaVene and Deon Gillen went on a shopplg spree Thursday and enjoyed en-joyed the day visiting several towns. Mrs. Gary Webb and children spent a few days with Sam and Eathel Skeem, and Mr. Webb joined them later. Mr. and Mrs. Rex Babbitt and son are spending a few days with Mr. and Mrs. Edwin Skeem. Mr. and Mrs. David Stanworth and son visited with Mr. and Mrs. Duane Stanworth. Bruce Anderson and Ralph Nichols Nich-ols were home for the Christmas weekend. Ella and Norvel Christensen attended at-tended the birthday part yfor their grandson, Gary Christensen. Steven and Rulon Stevens visited over night with their grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Norvel Christensen. Mr. and Mrs. Ostar Kelly spent Christmas in Riverton with their son. Ladd Kelly, and family. Earl Stanworth presented the Oasis Ward with a dozen new song books. Dale Willoughby has to report back to Fort Ord, Calif., on Jan. 2. His wife, Nadine, will go back with him. Also home for Christmas were George Billings, Salt Lake City, and Mr. and Mrs. Fenton Billings, Springville, and Mr. and Mrs. Grant Western and two daughters, of Logan. Lo-gan. And on Christmas Day phone calls to their parents came from Wanda and Blanche, at Logan, and Howard, at Farr West. Mrs. Fera Little spent the past week in Orem with her son and daughter-in-law, Sherman and Donna Don-na Little, and sons, Guy and Mark. Mr. Little, from Delta, and their younger son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Dennis Little, of Salt Lake City, joined the family visit Sunday and Monday. Mr. and Mrs. K. W. Kendrick, of Inglewood, Calif., arrived in Delta Saturday at 5 a.m. for a visit over Christmas with their parents, Mr. and Mrs. Elden Sorenson. Mr. Kendrick Ken-drick has returned to California, and Carol Dawn is remaining in Delta for a longer visit with her parents. A telephone call Christmas Day to Mr. and Mrs. John Jeterson came from their son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Leland Peterson, and daughters, of Walla Walla. Wash., to wish thtm Merry Christmas. Miss Mary Peterson, Salt Lake City, spent Christmas in Delta with her sister, Mrs. Wanda Beckwith, and family. Faye Howell's mother, from Cedar Ce-dar City, is visiting with her during the holidays: "Chuck" Howell finally got brave enough to place a diamond ring on Joan Murray's finger, and sneaked in quietly behind her while she showed her father, Mr. Carl Murray, who was thrilled as Joan, to Charles' surprise. Last I heard he hadn't faced Mrs. Murray yet. These children find such things to worry over. Mr. and Mrs. Bob Day were home with their parents, Mr. and Mrs. Don Day. Mrs. Martin Ludwig and Mrs. F. Skeem ate hot lunch with the kindergarten kin-dergarten students Friday. Paul Ludwig was home from the BYU for three week's vacation. Ronald Peterson spent Christmaas Christ-maas with his parents. He goes to Cedar City to schooL Mr. and Mrs. Bob Carling spent Christmas in Oasis and Hinckley. I also visited friends and attended Sunday School program in Oasis. |
