The American Legion Auxiliary No. 135 and the West Millard Boat Club are combining forces to stage an outstanding celebration cele-bration for the whole day. The morning's activities will be sponsored by the Auxiliary. First on the agenda is the Children's Parade, with marching bands, highflying high-flying colors, decorated bikes, pets, floats, etc. The Parade will begin promptly at 9:00 a.m. All entries will be classified and judged accordingly, ac-cordingly, states Gloria Walker, President of the Auxiliary. Prizes will be given to the best entries of each respective class. Beginning at 10:00 a.m. the doors of the Crest Theatre will be opened to all children for a Free Show. Peter A. Peterson, one of the oldest residents of West Millard County observed his 89th birthday here Sunday, June 26, by visiting with his friends and relatives at the home of his son, Peter H. Petersen Peter-sen of Oasis. Mr. Petersen who lives alone and takes care of himself at his home in Oasis across the road from his son was born In 1871 on July 26 at Mantua, Utah, the son of the late Peter N. Petersen and Sina Christensen Petersen. He moved to Deseret while still a small boy In 1877 with his parents who were among the first to settle this area. He was married to Hannah Skeem in 1894 at Deseret. The marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake Latter-day Saint Temple. After Af-ter their marriage they moved to Oasis where they made their home and raised their family. His wife died 14 years ago. Mr. Petersen was a railroad employee and later a farmer In Oasis. He has always been an active member of the church and served for many years in the Oasis Ward Bishopric as a Counselor. He also served as Sunday Sun-day School Supt. and ward teacher for many years. He holds the office of a High Priest in Deseret Stake and is still an attender at Priest hood meetings. Visiting with him Sunday were his two sons, Peter H. of Oasis and L. Elmer Petersen of Bountiful, many of his 12 grandchildren and 18 of his great-grandchildren and their families. 'A' V v ; i' PETER A. PETERSON Attend Department Auxiliary Confab The annual convention of the American Legion and American Legion Le-gion Auxiliary of the Department of Utah was held at Provo, Utah on June 23, 24. and 25th. Attending from Delta were Mrs. Betty Kelly and Mrs. 'Gloria Walker. New Department De-partment officers were elected on Saturday and installation ceremonies ceremo-nies were held during the afternoon. Mrs. Kelly was installed as President Presi-dent of District 6, an office to which she was elected a short time ago at District Convention held in Mt. Pleasant. All District Presidents are members of the Executive Eoard for the Department of Utah. Congratulations Con-gratulations to Mrs. Kelly on her election to this office. Sights such os this will greet the 4th of July spectators at the Delta Reser John Marlowe Nielson, native Utahn and former resident of Hinckley, presently a member of the music faculty of the University of Utah will teach a choral workshop work-shop sponsored by the Deseret Stake, according to an announcement announce-ment by Keith Rawlinson, Stake Music Director. The choral workshop will start Wednesday, July 6th at 8:00 p.m. and will be conducted over a period of ten weeks. The workshop will consist of a meeting each Wednesday Wednes-day night at 8:00 p.m. in the Deseret Des-eret Stake House for two hours each session. The workshop is designed de-signed to produce an outstanding program at the end of the ten-week ten-week course, culminating in a concert con-cert to be held in the Stake House Wednesday, Sept. 14. The course will cover analyzation and the interpretation in-terpretation of the music studied and the singing of six or seven choral numbers of outstanding calibre cali-bre from the pen of famous composers. com-posers. The Stake wishes to especially espe-cially encourage all present ward Former Deltan, 70, Dies in Salt Lake Mrs. Waiora Bishop Wallace died Sunday, June 12, in a Salt Lake rest home of an extended illness. Mrs. Wallace was born June 29, 1890 in Fillmore to Nelson S. and Elizabeth Melville Bishop. She married mar-ried Albert P. Wallace in 1909 in the Salt Lake Temple. They were later divorced. Mrs. Wallace was one of the ear ly settlers of Delta. She was active member of Daughters of the Utah Pioneers in Delta and in Salt Lake City, when she moved to that city. She had devoted most of her time to genealogical work after her fa mily was reared. Funeral services were conducted in Delta Second Ward, Tuesday, June 14, with Bishop Norman Gardner Gard-ner conducting. Graveside services were held In the Fillmore Cemetery later the same afternoon with Bishop M. A. Tomkinson of Flowell Ward conducting. con-ducting. Surviving are sons and daughters: J. Robert Wallace, Pomona, Calif.; Mrs. Nora Harris, Hayward, Calif.; Mrs. Ann W. Staeey, Salt Lake City; Mrs. Lillie Gibson, Chino, Calif.; Mrs. Dora Walker, Milford; and thirteen crandch'ldren. Mr. and Mrs. Morgan ar rived in Delta last Wednesday even ing irom Munich, Germany, where Mr. Morgan has been with Fnrpipn Service for the past year. After spending four years in Foreign For-eign Service, Mr. Morgan has re signed ana win re-enter the field of Education. He will teach Psy-cology Psy-cology at Clark College in Vancouver, Vancouv-er, Wash, next year. Water Carnival events will begin at 2:00 p.m. West Millard residents are urged to make plans now to spend the Fourth of July in Delta and at the Gunnison Bend Reservoir with the American Legion Auxiliary and the West Millard Boat Club. 31 Youth Talent Find, Talk Meet Slated First Part of August The Millard County Farm Bureau Rural Youth Talent Find and Rural Youth Talk Meet will be held during dur-ing the first part of August, according accord-ing to information released this week. Participants in both events must be members of Farm Bureau families, fa-milies, 17 to 30 years inclusive at the time of the 1960 American Farm Bureau Federation Convention. For the Rural Youth Talent Find judges will have the privilege of requesting a second and different number from finalists. It is recommended recom-mended that contestants be prepared pre-pared with more than one number. Subject chosen for the Talk Meet is "Toward New Frontiers in Agriculture". Ag-riculture". The length of the speech must not exceed five minutes and contestants must be members of Farm Bureau families between the ages of 17 and 30. The purpose of this meet is to develop and recognize recog-nize the ability of young people to think on their feet before an audience and to develop their ability abil-ity to search out basic principles and truths in the important issues facing agriculture. Glenda Snow is at home with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Grant Snow for the summer. Glenda recently re-cently returned from an all-expense trip with the BYU Piogram Bureau. While on the. tour she spent one weekend In Washington, D. C. with Mr. Snow's twin brother, Glen Snow. Some of the cities that she visited were Richmond, Va., New York City. Indiana, Cincinatti, Boston, Palmyra, Palmy-ra, and Chicago. Mr. and Mrs. Kelly Peck and Mr. and Mrs. Robert Hodgen of Monterey, Mont-erey, Calif, left Delta Wednesday morning for Salt Lake City for the day and to attend the World's Middleweight Championship fight between Gene Fullmer and Carmen Basilio. Mr. and Mrs. L. H. Riding were among those from Delta who attended at-tended the fight in Salt Lake City, Wednesday night. District leaders accompanying the boys were M. Ward Moody and Thurmon Moody. Leigh R. Moody, 73, Dies at Home in Delta Wednesday Leigh R. Moody, 73, died at his home, Wednesday, June 29, 9:45 a.m. of extended illness. Born July 19, 1886 at Deseret, he was a son of Warren W. and Alice Cropper Moody. He married Zella Cahoon in Salt Lake City, Dec. 19, 1907. The marriage was later solemnized solem-nized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. Mr. Moody lived in Deseret until 1955 when he and his family moved to Delta. He was engaged in farming, farm-ing, mining and stockraising. Survivors include his wife at Delta Del-ta and following children: Mrs. Kenneth Ken-neth (Nina) Mecham, Hinckley; Mrs. Kenneth (Florence) Farns- worth, Lowell Moody and Floyd Moody, all of Salt Lake City and Mrs. Darwin (Colleen) Barney, Heb-er Heb-er City; 23 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren; sisters and brothers, Mrs. William (Eva) Cheel, Mrs. Samuel (Laura) Blake and Melvin Moody, all of Baldwin Park, Calif., E.R. Moody, Salt Lake City, and Donald Moody of Delta. Funeral services will be held Saturday, July 2, 11:00 a.m. at Delta First Ward.
