Show Ruminatin $ Roundabout j In which Ruminator proposes to dream a lot, think as little as necessary, scatter a few bouquets bou-quets while their objectives are still above the sod to enjoy them, and fire a hot-shot now and then while said Ruminator Ruminat-or can enjoy seeing the sparks fly. May we prevail on our readers not to use this issue of The News for fire-starting or other equally unpretentious purpose at least not until after next Tuesday? You see, if you keop this paper until Tuesday you will have a decided "scoop" on non-subscribers (and almost every other person per-son in the state, for that matter) through being able to know instantly in-stantly next Tuesday whether your husband, son, brother, friend or neighbor will be among the first to be called up for classification classifi-cation or away down on the list. Incidentally, the Retting of the list into type has been a big job for the The News force with no remuneration except the satisfaction satisfac-tion we shall have of giving our leaders a service which few other papers are likely to render and giving front-page position to what we consider to be highly im.port ant matter even to the exclusion of other reading matter already in type. The carbon copy from which we took the list published was not as legible as it might have been and it may be that we have a few o's, e's and a's intermixed, in spite of using the greatest care. But, if you find this the case, we hope you will overlook such errors under un-der the circumstances. Always it is the intent of The News to keep the paper as free as possible from errors and this policy has been the means of bringing us some nice compli ments from persons whose opinions opin-ions may be highly regarded also some very favorable comparisons with other ,papers. When you rememlber that each line of type set represents the assembling of 25 to 30 individual characters, you will realize how easy it is for errors to appear and sometimes go undetected in proof-reading. In this connection, we might state a belief ,that Jias guided our newspajper (efforts at all times: that an (editor owes it to his readers to keep his paper as free as possible fronv errors of ALL kinds, and that anyone who does not do so is not being fair to his subscribers subscrib-ers or his profession! If you find this edition of The News gosh-awful full of selective service and election matter, just rememlber that a general election comes only once every two years; and hope (with us) that the registration regis-tration means no more for any of our boys than a period of good clean (and thorough) trainings which would not hurt any of our youngsters!
