Show a I Colton's Re-Election is I Vita! To Utah : !' x I I' j L . h i : In presenting the name of Don I B. Colton to the electorate of Utah to continue to represent this State in Congress, the Republican Party is asking that one of the nation's outstanding congressmen be returned re-turned to Washington. Congressman Colton is now the chairman of the Public Lands committee, com-mittee, and he also ranks high on the committees on Roads, Irrigation, Irriga-tion, Reclamation of Arid Lands, and Expenditures in the Executive departments, the last of which is a very important committee, as it checks and considers all expenditures expendi-tures authorized by Congress. Probably no State in the Union is so vitally affected by a public lands policy. This involves flood control in the West, grazing regulations regu-lations and reclamation. If returned re-turned to Congress, Mr. Colton's chairmanship of this important committee will have great influence influ-ence in the shaping of its policy. In the event that a change is made in this chairmanship it would, according ac-cording to the line of succession, probably go to Florida, which, in itself, would be a blow to Western aspirations. Congressman Colton's record on road legislation is second to none j in congressional halls. He is large- j ly responsible for the distribution j of Federal Aid funds on the basis j of publicly owned lands and pri- I vately owned lands in the western i states. Here in Utah that distri- i bution ratio is 74 to 26 . He I was joint author of the Colton-Od- I die Bill, which increased the Fed- j eral Aid fund from $75,000,000 to I $125,000,000, and increased the ! Forest Road funds from $7,500,000 I to $12,500,000. He was also one j of the sponsors of the regular Col- i ton-Oddie Bill, which provided for i federal highway construction on i public domain without requiring j ; funds to be matched by the states, j His record in respect to Federal i I reclamation in Utah needs no com- j j ment. Every worthy reclamation j j project which has. been presented : I to Congress has received Mr. Col- ! j ton's support. j He was a member of the commit- j j tee which drafted and sponsored I the bill co-ordinating and consoli- j i dating all veteran activities, and he I j has always supported the American i j Legion's legislative program. In : I addition to this, he has secured i ! help for scores of veterans of the I ! World War, the Spanish-Ameri- i j can War and the Indian Wars. j j The return of Mr. Colton to Con- j i gress is of vital import, not only to ! 1 Utah but to the Intcr-mountain I ! West. j I Republican Congressional Com- ; I mittee. j j Paid Advertisement. m , |
