"Many homes could not be contacted because the occupants Were out of town," announced Mrs. Lorctta Cline and Mrs. Faye Berger. "We are sure these householders will be disappointed in not having made a contribution to this emergency drive, so we are asking them to mail their contributions to Mrs. Berger or Mrs. Cline, or hand it to one of the Marching Mothers." Residents of the South Mil-for- d area,' who were not contacted in , Wednesday's drive, will be mailed letters Inviting them to assist in this emergency March of Dimes. STATE FAIR CATALOG NOW AVAILABLE Copies of the 1954 Utah State Fair Catalog and Premium List were mailed this week to exhibitors, municipal offices and newspapers. Additional copies may be obtained by exhibitors from the State Fair Offices in Salt Lake City. 'Prospective Milford area exhibitors may check the catalog in The Milford News office at any time during office hours. FAKE INSURANCE AGENT MAY HIT MILFORD Milford area residents were warned this week that fake insurance salesmen may be operating in this area, supposedly selling surgical, hospital, medical and life insurance, all in one policy, to persons who are too elderly to be eligible for such insurance. Reported as having swindled aged couples as far south as Hinckley, the fake salesman fills out application blanks and collects about $30 from each couple, writing a receipt for the money on a "dime store receipt blank," according to the State Insurance Department. Any person offering to wTite Insurance for elderly people should be promptly reported to an officer of the law, the State Insurance Department advised. ELY RACE MEET SET FOR NEXT WEEK There's a boom on at Ely, Nev and not the least of it is the expanded Pony Express Days celebration to be staged this year from Aug. 20 to 29. Fifty percent more thoroughbred horses than were at last year's big race meet will be competing in 1954, coming from every state of the Far West. A big circus has been added to the festivities this year, and the Nevada Fair of Industry has been enlarged especially in the livestock division. People are coming from many states to enjoy the 1854 Pony Express Days, which have already established a reputation as "one of the West's great celebrations." A large crowd packed the Greenville hall to enjoy the 16 numbers presented. Second place went to a male quartet, Terry Thompson, Dale Murdock David Williams and Dan Smith, and awarded third place was Sam Cox with a vocal solo. Second and third place winners received $10 and $5 cash prizes and Mr. Thompson received $25 to pay expenses to the State Fair to compete in the state Farm Bureau contest. Blaine Blackett acted as master of ceremonies. Appearing on the program from the Milford area were Trena and Joyce Gronning, vocal solo, and a South Milford group presenting a square dance. The group issued the following statement: With kindness and real concern this group presents the following to the people of Milford: Since some of the motion pictures have been rejected In part by the Legion of Moral Decency, and some magazines have been declared unfit for the public, we would not be degraded by their presence and request their discontinuance, since they present: a. Bad ideas for children; b. Cheap and low alms for adults; c. Contents, the results of which contribute to broken homes, juvenile delinquency and the lowering of all moral standards. Both meetings will be held in the Beaver County Courthouse, at 8 p. m., with the Democrats oh Friday evening convening and the Republicans on Saturday. For the Republicans, the nominating convention will be rqutine and more or less a mat ter of form. There will be no eliminations on the Republican ticket. The Democrats will have only one election to select can didates for the primary ballot. Five persons have filed for the State Representative nomination, and three of these will be eliminated at the convention. The five candidates are Arlo Messinger of Beaver, incumbent; and Roy Myers, Rue Nielsen, Ray Kizer and Eugene Davie, all of Milford. Only two registration days remain before the Tuesday, Sept. 14th Primary election. They are next Tuesday, Aug. 17, and Tuesday, Aug. 24. Persons who voted in the last general election do not need to register, unless they have moved from one voting district to another. With the revision of the voting districts last year, it would be we I for all voters to check the registration lists, which will be displayed in the post office lobby.
