Show Zone Lions, Ladies ; Meet At Milford ' The Union Pacific dining room w as the scene Wednesday evening of a very successful Zone 1 Lions I club dinner party, following which ' a couple of hours were spent dancing in the 1.0. O.K. hall. I'n- der the Mill' plan of sub-district i organization, four zone meetings lare held ea.h year, one of them a ! ladies' night affair, and it was i this meeting which came to Milford Mil-ford Wednesday evening. Lions clubs in Milford, Delta, Rich field, Salina and Monroe are included in Zone I. with K. R. Moody of Milford Mil-ford as zone chairman, and only Delta and Monroe failed to have n presentation ou this occasion. In addition to members of the Milford Mil-ford club and their wives, a number num-ber of other local people were present by invitation. ! E. L. Smith, president of the Milford Lions club, greeted the gathering and introduced Zone Chairman Moody, who acted as master of ceremonies. Lion Moody, in turn, introduced V. E. Martin, president of thf Milford town board of trustees, who stated that he could not turn the key of the city over to the visitors since there never had been a key to the city, so far as he was aware, but he j knew well the hospitality of Mil-1 ford and invited the visitors to feci perfectly at home. II Lion Ira Overfelt, Gunnison banker and deputy district (rover-; nor of Utah clubs, spoke at some length, and explained that District Governor A. C. Hatch had not been able to be present because of; a previous commitment' to be pres-at pres-at a charter-presentation meeting of the Orem Lions club, which has just been organized. Several of the visitors and prominent local Lions spoke briefly brief-ly and considerable merriment was occasioned by the work of Lion J. R. Murdock jr. and Lioness Grace Jefferson, who acted as j tailtwisters for the occasion. Musical numbers included vocal trio numbers by Misses Coleen Myers. My-ers. Elaine Albrecht and Beulah Eyre, hig'h school girls from. Min-ersville; Min-ersville; a clarinet solo by Harry Clark, M.H.S. music director, accompanied ac-companied by Miss Julia Hend-rickson; Hend-rickson; a piano solo by Mrs. E. L. Smith; violin solos by Kenneth Farrer. Minersville junior high i school music teacher, with Mrs. Smith as accompanist; and a ma-! ma-! rimba solo by Jean Fugal, ag ! teacher in the local high school. A lot of fun was created when ! Lioness Margaret Murdock an-. j nounced a competition of spring hat creations which the wives ofi jmembers of the local club hadj fabricated in keeping with their j i husbands' businesses or hqbbies, I and these were duly modeled by j said husbands as they paraded be-; be-; fore the judges, three of the visit-' . ing Lions. The J. C. Smith hat,! j which carried out a "figures" ! motif, was declared winner of the 1 prize, a most gorgeous vegetable bouquet. ' Lions from out of town present for the affair were Deputy District i ! Governor and Mrs. Ira Overfelt j of Gunnison; President and Mrs. I W. M. Fowles and Secretary and Mrs. Howard Mattsson of Salina; Mr. and Mrs. Paul Ashworth and Mr. and Mrs. E. H. Street of Richfield; Rich-field; and Wilson Lunt, L. L. Daly and Scott Day of Cedar City. |
