This event commemorated the worship services of 1896 throughout the state as residents waited for an announcement of statehood. _ Milford Band members (left to right) Roy Rogers, Richard C. Shinderling, who was a harness maker by trade, decided the village of - Milford should have a brass band, so he organized a band of 12 members and himself. The ' following boys were interested in music, and became members of the band: James E. Tanner, John - McKeon, Robert Cart, James Bigler, Carles Davis, John Wright, George Robinson, David A Tanner, Carles Rollins, Cyrus Bradfield, Charles Adams and Hyrum Davis. In 1908, Richard C, Skillicorn, the father of Mrs. D. N. Hickman, organized a brass band _ with 15 members. This band made its first appearance furnishing music for the Fourth of July,” 1909. The members of this band were Roy Rogers, George Atkin Jr., Morrison Hickman, Heber Nichols, Bert May, D.N. Hickman, Charles Beard, Luther Hardy, Norvill Williams, Hoe Swift and Mr. Skillicorn. At times this band had-as many as 25 members. This band held together for several years, and furnished music for a great many excursions to Newhouse and other mining camps. The next band to amount to anything was sponsored by the Milford High School, and. through the teachings of Lorus Hand, Alvin Baker and other capable music teachers, Milford had. a fine Class 'B' High School Band.
