Wilderness lands meed meet strictly the legal definition as contained in the 1964 Wilderness Act. Lands not so designated should be released for multiple-us- e management. They have also requested of Governor Lcavitt that no reserve water rights be granted or implied in any wilderness bill affecting Utah. v V Back Again BeavaGwnty participated mfan that effect. For those who did not hear the announcement, here it is: , "Finally, Utahns understand the costs and negative trade offs of the wilderness. Iv Finally, we realize we already have hundreds of laws and regulations on the books to protect our public lands so we don't need to designate more wilderness to preserve our natural heritage. ' Finally, Utahns see the problem more wilderness can cause, like hurting education by reducing school trust fund revenue, prohibiting scientific management of our wildlife, strangling rural economies and locking up the public's natural resources just when we need them to survive in the tough and competitive world economy! It's not surprising that more and more Utahns are proposing the wilderness extremities who demand huge additional areas be set aside for a few backpackers. In fact, recent polls prove that ovciwhelming majorities of Utahn only want small additional wilderness acreage designated. f 111 ' TogetthefacUonwildcnsoyoucanrnakeupyourown mind, send a stamped, envelope to the Utah Wilderness Education Project Box 25154, Salt Lake City, 84125.
