It ran north westward from Milford and men Frisco to was 2 spur curved west and south to Frisco. The depot and telegraph office were very near to the location of the present historical monument From Frisco the road ran south to the point of the mountain and at Squaw Springs turned northward, to Newhouse. After the demise of Newhouse the road continued to be used There was a large sheep shearing station at Newhouse, managed by Bill Morris. A small engine with --flat cars would bring the bags of wool to Milford. In the 30's a flash-floo- d washed out the road bed from Frisco to Newhouse and it was never 2 Rebuilt. It must have been a massive flood, for it carried away the fills between the hills, leaving the ties 3and rails hanging in the air. " I had always thought mat the railroad ended at Newhouse but I have a map , it has a 191 1 copyright and was printed in the "Volume Library" in 1912 by W.W. Richardson Co. The sub-tit- le "states, "A Concise, Graded Repository of Practical and Cultural Knowledge designed for bom Instruction and Reference." This map doesnt show Newhouse but indicates the mine "Copper Gulch". The amazing feature of this map is that the railroad continues on down to the floor of the valley, near the southern tip of Seveir Lake. That terminal is named Smelterville. Many questions arise. If Newhouse was not established in 191 1, then when was it? Does anyone have information about Smelterville? How wonderful it would be to follow that old roadbed in a the old smelter. Trivia question: What was " and see what remains er of the number of that small engine used for this run ? '; O four-wheel- 10:00 A.M.
