Last Monday we heard our new President of the United States give us some sound advice when he advised the voters to vote for those men who make the real tough decisions to cut governmental be spending, regardless of whether they Republicans, Democrats, or Independents. There were mixed emotions, everyone felt that the girls had been cheated, but on the other hand they had earned the right to go to California and play ball if they wanted to. So they got busy selling candy and raffle tickets to earn expense money. So r the blame for what happened on to our board members, commissioner, Taylorsville, Kearns or Granger leagues; but after going to California and talking to people down there, I've formed the opinion that national did not want Utah in their tournament. The program was a remarkable success. The use of the bowery and park for the program allowed us to serve more than 3,000 lunches this summer and coordinate numerous recreational activities for the youth in the Midvale area. Besides the regular daily recreation activities which included organized games, arts and crafts and special programs, we were also able to take 29 youth to the rodeo, 52 youth ice skating, 60 youth to the Hansen Planetarium, 39 youth to camp, 60 youth on the Heber Creeper, and 30 youth on the Snowbird tram. Throughout the summer I have had many mothers from Midvale call me and express their appreciation for the program. I hope we will be able to offer the same service to the Midvale community next year.
