To the nation, Miss Illinois is Miss America, but to the 22 Midvale boosters in Atlantic City Saturday night, Kathy Wood is still No. 1. The Pageant is quite a spectacle, but it is held in a hall that hardly has a good seat in it. Everyone has to strain every minute to see. The Utah Motel was also o'clock, mountain time. headquarters for a whopping Illinois delegation that has been whooping it up in great style. Midvale was outnumbered, but not in enthusiasm. So the live audience knew at least an hour ahead of the home viewers who the were. 10 semi-finalist- s The West did pretty well, with Miss Oregon 3rd runner-up and Miss Wyoming, Miss California and Miss Idaho winning special $1,000 talent scholarships and Miss New Mexico named Miss Congeniality. Kathy's parents, Mr & Mrs Joe (Fritz) Wood, her sister Gloria, and her boy- -' friend's mother, Mrs Lucile Morgan, all in the audience, were ot disappointed, course, that Kathy did not "make the cut," but there were no tears, no resent group got in early enough Friday to get to the evening performance and see Kathy in the evening gown competition. Sandy Woman Hurt In Diagonal Crash Don Milne Wins Over Dale Waters In the only purely local contest in the primary election Tuesday, Donald B. Milne defeated Dale W. Waters .or the right to appear on the Republican ballot for the Legislative District 21 seat in the State House of Representatives. Milne will be opposed in the general election by Democrat Elgin Hokanson. With 11 of the 14 districts reporting early Wednesday morning Mr Milne had 1338 votes to 481 for Mr Waters. In the primary race for rights to appear on the November ballot for the four year county commission job Fred Demman Jr. apparently defeated Louis E Holley on the Democratic ticket and incumbent Philip R. Blomquist won over William T. Barton. Garages Damaged In Hit-Ru- Case n Wayne Rocha, 19, was arrested by Midvale police for failure to report an accident a week which occurred earlier. Police said the car he was driving collided with garages adjacent to the city's east parking lot, causing $500 damaee Miss Connie Grace Adam-son- , 22, 8426 Stato Dr., Sandy, is in critical condition with head injuries at Cottonwood hospital following an accident occuring at 9th East and Cottonwood Diagonal. Her sports car collided with a car driven by Mrs Frances T. Petrlich, 49, 387 Alta View Dr., Midvale. Miss Adamson's car was knocked 231 feet across the divided island on 9th East and through a fence on the side of the highway. Mrs Petrich's car was also knocked 98 feet across the same island according to investigating officer. With the threat of riots growing nationally and the recent rumors of gang fights in this area, local police agencies have formed plans for the putting down of such occurrences. In Midvale Chief of Police Louis Smith has taken the initiative to ask police departments in neighboring communities to cooperate in the event of any large scale disturbance in Midvale, he in turn has promised all of the help that Midvale can offer to any of them. As the investigation continues Midvale Police Chief Louis Smith reports that it now seems that Eddie Mon-toywas not dragged from his home as originally reported but that he was carried into the house after be was seriously injured. Midvale police have also arrested Garth Udy , 18, 5601 South 4430 West, Reams, and have charged him with the neighbor"disturbing a hood quiet." Udy was sentenced to 30 days in the county jail after he pleaded guilty to the charge before Justice of the peace H. The primary job of the fire department will be to use water to break up the mobs. Shop and Station Robberies Solved juvenile without a precourt record has admitted to Midvale police that he was responsible for two burglaries at Bingham Radio Shop, 78 W. Center St., and has agreed to make restitution. He also admitted to police that he had taken money from time to time from the till at Ron's Chevron Station, Center & Holden Sts. Salt Lake City, was arrested by Midvale police Sunday night for driving while under the influence of intoxicating liauor and driving on revocation of license. Officers reported a test showed a concentration of .23 alcohol. Midvale Community Development Council will resume Monday, meetings Sept. 16, at the library administration building at 8 p.m. All local organizations are requested to have representatives present at the meeting. Chairman A. M. (Mickey) Ross promises an active year for the organization but the full cooperation of all the civic and service clubs in the area will be needed and sought. Hillcrest Wins As Jordan, Bingham Fall Jordan district football teams got off to what has been their usual start for the past few years, Hillcrest won its ball game handily and just as handily Bingham and Jordan posted their first marks in the loss column. Hillcrest romped to a victory over Kearns by a 40-margin. But only after a jittery first quarter as the young team got over the first game shakes. Jordan and Bingham will play Friday night at the Miners field in a homecoming game for the gang from Bingham.
