Brighton high school locked up second place in Region Two boys' basketball and the right to face Davis in Monday's opening round of the 4A state tournament by virtue of its 0 win over visiting Alta Tuesday night. The victory follows in the heels of 7 win Bingham. The Friday's Miners also lost to Orem Tuesday in 1 a heartbreaker, which tied Bingham with Mountain View for fifth in Region Two. The Bengals, reported head coach Larry Yates, will take on the Darts in Monday's 6:30 p.m. contest to be ' staged at the University of Utah's Special Events Center. Bingham will playoff against Mountain View Friday at 7:30 p.m. on Hillcrest high's floor for the honor of matching up with Region Three champ Skyline in Monday's 4:10 p.m. state contest. dicated that. In the final period, the Bengals free throw shooting kept the Miners at bay. Steve Brownlee led all scorers with 30 points, hitting 11x16 from the field for 69 percent and was 8x9 at the foul line. Parker Ragsdale added 16 points, Marc Miller 14, Holker 11 and Steve Olsen 10. Coach Yates was especially pleased with his team's rebounding, the Bengals picking up 43 boards on the night, Olsen and Holker with nine each, Ragsdale with eight and Scott Murry with seven. "Bingham played hard with a lot of intensity, added Yates, "and that's why I was so happy with my kids' performance." Tim McKissick led Bingham's scoring with 17 points. followed by Tim Nicolodemos with 15 and Ken-- , neth Roberts 14. To Bingham coach George Sluga, Brighton's 27x39 performance at the foul line was a major key to the game, as both team shot about equally well from the field. PTSA officers at West Jordan high school are inviting patrons and members of the community to support a drive to obtain a marquee for the school. The design chosen is for a brick column bearing the word Jaguars, and topped by a display board for school news. SALT LAKE. The art budget for the new county building is "extravagant' according to Dave Watson, the County Commission's newest member. Spending more than $200,000 worth of paintings and scuplture in financially tough times Is ridiculous, Watson told the two other commissioners. The art Work will be placed in the county's $54 million government center at 2001 So. State. "We feel the marquee will benefit the entire community by letting everyone know what is going on at the school," said PTSA secretary Georgia Archibald. Students have voluntarily raised the price of soda pop by 10 cents per can as a contribution to the effort, she noted, and the PTSA will make a cash donation to the marquee at the end of the school year. At the meeting, Commissioner Mike Stewart contended that art is an investment. "It appreciates," he said. "And it's always salable." Both Commissioner Stewart and Bart Barker voted to buy the art. Watson acknowledged that art is an investment, but only If there is money to invest.
