S. Department of Interior. The department noted that $335,980.27 of this money is to be used for game restoration 7 projects: the balance of will be used in the fishery field. Funds allocated to the state a year ago were $319,246.78 for game and $90,094.52 for fish. The increase this year is accounted for by the added number of fish and game license buyers in the nation. The game monies come from an 11 federal excise tax collected on sporting arms and ammunition at the manufacturing source. Those for fish restoration come from 10 excise tax on sports fishing equipment. The taxes are eventually paid s' relation- n Fellow members of the Middle High youth fellowship elected representatives on the board of the Sandy Community Church, a group sponsored by Mr & Mrs Don Golonka. They attended a movie last week as part of their "fun night" and were recent guests at an orientation meeting which was hosted by Westminster College for Protestant youth in the Salt Lake area. Mrs Thomas was the January hostess for the English Club. Members of the club are all young women who are originally from England and they meet once a month. Marsh building, range rehabilitation, creation of new fishing waters, and chemical treatment of many waters to restore the fishing are but a few of the many projects conducted over the years with these funds. Tallies from the recently completed winter waterfowl census over Utah marshlands shows good numbers of ducks, geese and other waterfowl wintering within the borders of the Beehive state. The counts, conducted Jan. 4 through Jan. 8, found 53.349 ducks on the state's marshes, along with 3,784 geese, 3.624 swans and 1,859 coots, for a total wintering population of 62,616 birds. he counts, conducted jointly by personnel from state and federal agencies, using both air and ground conveyances, showed the current winter population to be up by more than 4,000 birds from last year's winpopulation of 58,406 tering ducks, geese, swans and coots. State an dfederal inventories made periodically during the three months prior to this annual inventory indicated that the waterfowl population followed the normal pattern of reaching its peak in September and gradually diminishing during October, November, and December. inventories showed 500,000 ducks, 7.000 geese and 38,000 swans utilizing the management areas. This annual winter survey is conducted during the same period in all states comprising the Pacific waterfowl floyway as a measure to determine carryover of brood birds from the fall hunts, and effects of the past open season. Net fines totaling $7,125.50 were assessed by the courts for the volation of fish and game laws. Ninety-nincitations were for carrying a loaded gun in a vehicle.
