Theron Jim Gerrard, secretary-manager, Utah State Fair Association, said some ground ireas were back in 1952 when the driver's license division of the Department of Public Safety was "temporarily" moved to the fair grounds. Today the entire surface of the fair grounds, from the building on the east to the Coliseum on the west, is paved to make the 1964 fair, which begins its run Sept. 18, comparatively dirt-frePreviously many important traffic areas had been graveled only, Mr Gerrard noted. Ground sand buildings are already being shaped up for Utah's 108th exposition. Another major improvement is new roofing on all horse barns. Barns are also being repainted. The fair manager said the Administration and Horticulture buildings are being repainted in desert sand tones, and all rest rooms on the Fair Grounds are being painted inside and out. Wooden booths on the second floor of the big Commercial building No. 1 (formerly the Industrial Arts building) have been torn out and will be ref placed with gold and turquoise drapery booths which can be easily removed for d exhibits which call for use of the entire area. Mr Gerrard said a 17 by portable stage will be installed at the east end of the second floor of this building for daily entertainment during the fair, with seating for 350 people. Drapery booths will also be set up in two other ommcrcial display buildings, and high ceilings will be "lowered" with gold and turquoise vclon lattice work to make display areas more attractive in Commercial Exhibit No. 1 and Horticulture buildings.
