County Democratic Women Set Meeting MAYOR EXTOLS SANDY FOLKS ON WAR EFFORT A letter of appteciation to citizens of Sandy has been written by Mayor L E Pt•terson as follows: "V -E and V-J Days are now history, so in behalf of the Sandy City cow1cil, J want to thank all of the good citizens of Sandy for the splendid work they have done to help win the war. •·The buying of war bonds, cootri~ butioos to war relief, and all other thiogs asked of them are outstanding, and will never be forgotten. "I believe that Sandy has as many boys and girls in the armed forces as any city of its size in the United States. Something to be proud of! "'Please send me the names of your boys and girls and where they are stationed, so that arrangements may be made for a grateful city to honor its worthy citizens. '"I should like the · names of sol diers of other wars which I know we have in our town. Also the names Df boys now in service who have married our town girls. ""'- Mr & Mra Almon Harrison and family & Mr & Mrs Veri Hoopes and farrtily of Alton, Wyo, spent the weekend as guests of Mr & Mo J E Rich and Mr & Mrs A M Nelson. Approximately 100 persons were .in attendanee at the family gathering of the family of the late Mrs Sophrona Bateman Wed, Sept 5, honoring her 83rd birthday. Mrs Selpha B Brady will be in charge of the gathering in 1946. Corp IV Dale Nelson, husband of Mrs Lucille Malstrom Nelson of Sandy, wns recently promoted to his present mnk in the Philippines. He entered the sen-ice in July, 1944, and participated in the Palawan I s~ Jand campaign. His wife and two children, Brent and Cathy, reside at Sandy. Mrs Irvin Jensen returned last week from the St Marks hospital where she underwent an appendcc~omy. The marriage will take place Monday at the Salt Lake LDS temple. A wedding reception honoring th e couple will be given by the parents the same e\'ening at the Hyrum Jensen home on Highlund Drive. A loan guarantee division of the Veterans Administration has been established at 222 Boston Building in Salt Lake City for tl1e purpose of processing to completion applications for loans to vetemns of 'Vorld \Var ll, as f>rovided for in Title ill of the Servicemen's Readjustment Act of 1944. This di\ision is under the direction of Mr E A Littlefield, manager, Veteran's Facility, 12th Avenue and E street, Salt Lake City 3, Utah. Mr Clayton I Thatcher, loan guarantee oficer, who was assigned by the Wnshington ofice as a special representative to supervise the establishment and operation of the Denver Colorado loan guarantee division which fonnerly sen·ed the states of Colorado, Kansas, New Mexico, Utah and \Vyoming, is i_r, charge of the new divi>ion in Salt Lake City. This office, recently opened and now operating in full force, will serve the state of Utah. Pvt Frank D Borg of the army engineers, returned recently from several months service in Italy and is spending a 30-day furlough with his wife and their sons, Duane and Gary of East Midvale. Pvt Harry Setterberg recently arrived from Camp \Volters, Texas, and is. spending a 2-weeks furlough with his wife and daughters, Reta and Carroll, He reports next to Fort Ord, Calif. Friday, September 21, 1945 VETERAN DISCHARGED AFTER LONG SERVICE S / Sgt Ralph Crane. husband of Afton Densley Crane, and son of Mr & Mrs il!ord Crane, Riverton, received his army discharge and returned home Sunday, Sept 16, following 3% years' service in the European war theater. A gunner and radio operator in the army air corps, Sgt Crane was seriously wounded on his 13th mission, as he was flying over Germany in August, 1943 in a B-17 bomber. He spent several months in a British civilian hospital at Ipswich, England. S/Sgt Crane entered the service in April, 1942, and left for ; overseas in April. 1943, and was stationed in England and France. He is a graduate of Jordan high school ,and a former student of St Mary's colJege at Morago, Calif, and the University of Utah. While at. Jordan high he played quarterback on the football team, and was. also prominent in sports at the Universi~ ty of Utah. 000, or 4 per cent, from 1943, the National Safety Council reveals. Page Four Accidental deaths in the United States during 1944 decreased 4,- Members of the 01 Mothers and Daughters Sewing Club" were entertained Monnday evening by Mrs June Ostler at her home in Riverton. The time was spent in sewing and fancy-work, and refreshments were served. The next meeting will be held Monday, Oct 1, at 8 p m, at the home of Mrs Joy Slater. The club was organized several years ago, and as far as is known, it is the only "mothers and daughters" club in the county, and perhaps the state. ~lotorists Beth Taft's Beauty Shop I S/ Sgt Vere T Densley. a waist gunner and mechanic in the 15th air force, is at present stationed near Foggie, Italy. Son of Mr & Mrs Thomas Densley of Riverton, and husband of Mary Lou Bodell Densley, S/Sgt Densley entered the service in January 1944 and has been overseas for a year, durin"g which time he made 19 sorties and 136 combat missions. He is a graduate of Jordan high school and a former student at the University of Utah. S/Sgt Densley has never seen his baby son, Randal, now over 1 year old.
