Show • Sandy Department Service Mothers To Be Honored Lions, Partners Enjoy Party A special program and demonstration of Scout work was presented Tuesday evening at Sandy First wprd M I A, under direction of Scout officials. The one-act play, "Spy Me This One," was presented by the Gleaner Girls of the ward under direction of the drama leader, Mrs J V Fowkes. Those taking part included Yvonne Fowkes, Herta Ludwig, Ruth Reich, Cuma Alvey, Lora Farnsworth, Lois Parnell and Clarine Rasmussen. The executive board of the Salt Lake County Women's Democratic club will honor the mothers of sons and daughters in the armed forces at their meeting Friday, Feb 16, at 2 p m in the county firemen's hall in Murray, it has been announced by Mrs N F Pehrson of Magna, president of the club. Each mother is requested to bring a picture and something sent to them by their sons or daughters. Mrs Grover Rich of Salt Lake City will be the guest speaker of the afternoon. Other program numbers will also be presented. Refreshments will be served and all members and others interested are invited to attend. On Wednesday (Valentine) night, the Sandy P-TA and Sandy Lions club sponsored a Valentine dance at Sandy Recreation hall. The novel valentine decorations added to the occasion with huge heart valentines, baskets of flowers, buds, butterflies, dancing couples and ladies dressed in red and white. The floor show consisted of an umbrella dance in which the girls wore red and white costumes and carried umbrellas covered in white with red appliqued hearts. There was also "dummy" dance, a flower dance and a King and Queen of Hearts dance. Sandburr Camp Discusses Memorial Speakers Address Stake Conference The meeting of the Sandburr Camp, Daughters of Utah Pioneers held Thursday evening at the home of Mrs Harriett Robinson, with Mrs Beth Sorenson, second vice-captain, in charge. T he lesson, "Rugged Men of the West" was given by Mrs Elfleda L Jensen. The raising of a memorial fund was discussed and plans were made to secure membership funds to be used in the erection of a memorial building for the Daughters of Utah Pioneers. Following the meeting refreshments were served to 15. Hostesses were Mrs Myrtle Hyatt and Mrs Harriet Robinson. Valentine favors were used in the decorations. Elder Antoine R Ivins and El· der Richard L Evans of the First Council of Seventy, represented the general church authority at sessions of Mt Jordan stake quarterly conference held Saturday and Sunday at Sandy, with President Stanley A Rasmussen in charge. • • MRS. The monthly theme was developed and following the business discussion, refreshments were served. Valentine decorations and favors were used and refreshments served to Mrs Harriet Robinson, Mrs Mamie Pierson, Mrs Stella Thompson, Mrs Bessie Gull, Mrs Lerona Carpenter, Mrs Ruth Jensen, Mrs B ernice Clayton, Mrs Elizabeth Morrow, Mrs Clara Anderson, Mrs Lena McNamey, Mrs Lila Woodbou se and Mrs Nelson. "Birthday Club" Organized 10 Years T he Birthday club was entertained at the home of Mrs Marian O ldham in Sandy Friday afternoon, honoring her birthday. Luncheon was served at 1 :30 p m to club members, Mrs Lenore J enkins, Mrs Mabel Fritz, Mrs Eliza Jenkins, Mrs Mary Smith, Mrs LaVerne MacNeil, Mrs Mearl Wennerstrom, Mrs Marie Hart, Mrs Bernice Brown and Mrs Lizzie Jenkins of Sandy; Mrs Mytle Hunt of Murray; Mrs Ivy Warner of Midvale; Mrs Wanda Warner of Salt Lake and special guests, Mrs Zelpha Hunsaker, Mrs Laura Dumas, Mrs Vera Smith and Mrs RoJenia Smith of Sandy; Mrs A m elia Holmquist, Mrs Evelyn T ay lor and Mrs Lillie Carlson of Murray. Progressive games followed the dinner. Prizes were awarded Mrs Wanda Warner, and Mrs A melia 'Holmquist. Mrs Vera S mith was initiated in as a new m ember of the club. T he club was organized 10 years ago by Mrs Mary Smith, Mrs Rolen ia Smith and Mrs Lenore Jenkins, and tile club members have m et continuously since that time. A club anniversary social honoring the organization will be held som etime in the near future, according to Mrs Jenkins. Study Group Meets Today In Sandy The meeting and Valentine social of the Democratic Women's Study group for Thursday, Feb 15, will be held Friday Feb 16, at 8 p m at the home of Mrs L C Mitchell· on State street, it has been announced by Mrs G Leonard Larson, president of the club, who will be in charge. Election of officers will be a feature of the meeting under direction of the nominating committee, Mrs Stanley A Rasmussen, Mrs L C Matchen and Mrs Madge Stapley. A valentine social will follow the meeting with the executive officers of the club, Mrs G Leonard Larson, Mrs Roy Webster, Mrs R oy Ferguson, Mrs Elmer S Johnson and Mrs Charles Rudd as hostesses. All interested are invited to attend . MRS. MARLON BATEMAN ENTERTAINS CLUB Mrs Marlon S Bateman entertained the B J E U-G EM M·C HE R L B club at her home on State street recently. An illustrated lecture was given by Herbert Bartlett, art supervisor of the Jordan school district. SANDY SCHOOL FACULTY ENTERTAINS TRUSTEES The members of the Sandy school faculty entertained members of the Jordan district board of education at a dinner at the Sandy junior high school on Thursday evening. A valentine theme was carried out with decorations of white hearts and flowers. Dinner was served on small tables. A floor show was presented by the students of the school. Games were enjoyed following the dinner. Speakers were Arthur E Peterson and C C Crapo, with closing remarks by Bishop Pierson. Musical numbers included vocal selections by Miss Maxine Orton, and vocal duet by L E Van Dam and Mrs LaNome McCleary. Interment was in Sandy city cemetery. Mrs Green, a daughter of Charles David and Jeannette Stoker Rogers, was born Nov 19, 1887, jn Sandy. She was married PERSONAL MENTION Mrs Eric Anderson was entertained at a luncheon at her home in Sandy, Monday afternoon, by the Neighborhood Birthday club, honoring her birthday anniversary. Luncheon was served to 8 guests. to Thomas S Green in 1916. She was a member of Sandy Second ward. Her husband died several years ago. Surviving are 2 sons, Alvin T Green of Sandy and Harvey R Green with the army engineers, stationed overseas; 3 sisters; Mrs Roy Anderson of Magna; Mrs Charle~ Severson of Salt Lake City and Mrs Robert Wallace of Midvale. Miss Bevington is a graduate of the Boulder high school and attended the university for 2 years. She was a member of the Home Economics c1ub, the University Women's club and Kappa Phi Methodist sorority. Since leaving school she has been assistant to Ralph McKee, county auditor and recently has been at the Colorado book store. John Dale Donahoo is a son of Mr & Mrs William R Donahoo of Clearfield, formerly of East Crescent. He enlisted in the navy air corps in 1942 and was placed in active duty in 1943. He received training in San Luis Obispo, Calif, and in the summer of 1943 he attended the University of Colorado. He later received training at St Mary and Livermore, Calif, and Corpus Christi, Texas. Due to a knee injury suffered at Livermore, he was not able to continue his pilot training and at present is stationed at Great Lakes, Ill.
