Riverton Ex-Service fitlen 'M R~en Teams o Play For Jun·or B gh Cagers To To Open In Midvale Opera Leads Announced Schedule Annual Reunion Progressive Club 'frophy Cc uct arch Tourney ' On March 1, when operations are scheduled to start at the Intermountain Glass company plant at Midvale, Utah's first glass factory in more than thirty years will go into production. This plant is situated on North Main street adjacent to the United States Smelting, Refining and Mining works. The building, which was formerly owned by the Western Steel Corporation, is being remodeled and installation of equipment for the manufacturing of glass is being completed at the present t~me. Brick furnaces have already been built, and moulds, air compressors and sand crushers are now enroute to Midvale and will be set up within the next two weeks. The equipment is being installed under the direction of W. W. MatthewS' and his son William J. Matthews, glass experts of vVallsburg, West Virginia, together with Amos Epperson, superintendent. Mr. Matthews and his son have directed the erection of some of the largest glass plants in the United States and several foreign count ries. All types of containers, tableware and glass specialists with the e.xception of plate glass will be manufactured. Raw materials originating in Utah will be used in the manuf act ure o f the g 1ass. Last summer Utah raw mate~ials were used in tests at plants m Ma ion, Indiana, and the results were very satisfactory, said Mr. Matthews. MMen - Gleaner Girls T Sponsor Ward Banquet The fi!. st annual junior high school basketball tournament will be held in the Midvale junior high school gym March 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 and 9, Aaron Horne, coach of the Midvale school, announces. The official title will be "gold medal tournament" for junior high school cagers. L1 or· E~Ome time past junior high officials have seen thte need of such a tourney. It will not only settle the state title in junior high school competition, but will give the younger cagers of the state a chance to display their wares before tourney fans. • Mr. Horne announced that considerable interest has been aroused in the coming affair. All of the teams in the Granite district have signified their intentions of competing. A number of Jordan district teams are also expected to enter. T.eams entering the meet will be allowed the use of eight players, the same as the high schools setup in the annual state tournament. Due to the fact that 61 suitable prizes will be awarded teams and individuals, the tournament will be called the "gold medal" tournament." The first place winner will receive a suitable trophy. The eight team members of the title winning group will receive gold basketballs. T~e play~rs on the runnerup crew Wlll rece1ve silver basketballs and the third place team members will be presented bro~ basketballs. A wards will be presented the high scorer of the tourney, best allaround athlete, best sportsman and a miscellaneous award will be presented to the player making the longest shot.
