L MEYERS IS NAMED PRESIDENT 1Ua.yor R :mtngton Suggests Program 1\lore Than Score Are Seriously Injured Fifteen fatal accidents and more than a score of near fatal mishaps have occured on that section of State street that lies between Midvale Junction and Lovendahl"s Corner. The most recent fatality was that of Miss Malstrom which bappened at State and Union avenue. In spite of the fact that it is one of the finest boulevards in the country; every eighth of a mile is associated with a gruesome tragedy that has cost a human life. Mayor Les Rimington and E. E. Greenwood were appointed as a committee to in vesttgate the record of the accidents that have happened in this section of road as recorded in the sheriff's office in Salt Lake City and to enlist the cooperation of Sheriff Young in a program of accident prevention. The Committee received a promise of an extra patrol car to watch thls district. It should be remembered however that the whole popu1ation, driver and pedestrian, must unite if the campaign is to succeed in stopping the senseless and un-necessary waste of life. It was found that a majority of those killed were pedestrians who had been hit in the back. They were hit while walking, in most cases, with the traffic, instead of against it. They were walking on the right side of the road instead of the LEFT side where pedestrians are supposed to walk. Besides the proposed campaign of law enforcement and education of the public in safety----the inhabitants of South Salt Lake county should not be content until sidewalks are provided on every main thoroughfare! College Credit Course Sponsored By C. W. A. Twenty-five students, mainly Jordan graduates. some with college hours to their credit, have enrolled in college classes being conducted at Jordan High each morning. The courses are sponsored by the C. W. A. and are being directly supervised by the University of Utah. Miss Maurine Peterson, the instructor for these classes, is a graduate of the University of Utah and was highly recommend•ed by Dr. George H. Thomas, president of the University, and Charles H. Skidmore, state superintendent of public instruction. A total of ten credit hours may be earned by students during the term. This credit will rank with an equal amount earned 1n any other college in the state, and as such may be applied towards a degree from any of the higher institutions. Many of the post graduate students are supplementing the college courses 'With regular high school work, the commerci~l arts being the most favored subJects. • • Pictured above are the principals in the Jordan High School annual play, "Cappy Ricks" to be presented February 21.
