Show . Vol. 6. No. 11. ~ -- lVIidvale, Utah , Thur sday, July 10, 1930 OLYMPIC GAMES SOUTH JORDAN MEDALS ARRIVE OBSERVES FOURTH HELEN STOKES WINS MARINE FLYER WINS LADIES' TENNIS TITLE CURTISS AIR RACE When Helen Stokes defeated her little sister, Lillian, 6-4, 4-6, 6-2 in a stiff three-se t tussle Saturda y, she became the tennis champio n of the ladies' division of the Jordan district tournam ent. Helen played a fine brand of tennis to dispose of her fifteen rivals for this honor, and was without doubt the classies t player in the tournam ent. The semi-fin als were pretty much of a family affair, with Lillian Stokes defeatin g her twin, Katherin e, 6-3, 7-5, and Helen subduin g the only non-rela tive, Marian Handy of Sandy, 6-2, 6-2. Then Helen upheld her older sister right to rule in the family as aforesai d. The quality of tennis played in the tournam ent was especial ly good, when one consider s that most of the girls entered were fairly new at the game. The Midvale school playgro und is planning a ladies' doubles tournament soon to give· the girls further competi tion.
