WEST JORDAN A no host party was held at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Ed Blackett Thursday night. Cards were played and luncheon was served to nine guests. Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Eastman are visiting at Lark. Theodore Hutchings of South Jordan is agent for the Metropolita n Life Insurance company in this district. Mr. and Mrs. Max Markns are receiving congratulat ions upon the birth of a son. Mrs. Markns was formerly Miss Jenny Barben. Mrs. Lydia Bateman entertained at dinner Sunday for Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Wight and family of Miller ward. Miss Thelma Dimond visited her sister, Mrs. Ira Hardcastle at Sandy this week. Mrs. Hardcastle has been on the sick list. In interest of the opening of the Era campaign a pageant, "Mystery Lady," was held in connection with the M. I. A. program Tuesday night under the direction of Mrs. Luella McAllister. The characters were, "Mystery Lady," Ivy Steadman; pages, Beth Dahl and Marie Malstrom; letters, Maurine and Vaudis Olsen; "Dollars," Alice Hogan and Virginia Booth; Nurses, Bulah Yates and Emma Steadman; accompanis t, Lelia Abbott. The following officers are at the head of the M. I. A. organizatio n; Hugh Finlayson, president Y. M. M. I. A.; Henry Schmidt, first counselor; Kenneth Hogan, second counselor; Laurence Leak, secretary; Albert Olsen, Era and Publicity director; Miss Genevieve Gardner, president of Y. L. M. I. A.; Mrs. Lettie Sanders, first counselor; Mrs. Clara Hogan, second counselor; Eva Cooley, secretary; Mrs. Luella McAllister, Era and Publicity director. Mr. and Mrs. Charles Berg of Afton, Wyoming and Mrs. G. H. Anderson of Salt Lake visited their sister, Mrs. John Anderflon Saturday, also at the home of Mrs .Wanda Malstrom. Mrs. Vern Jensen and children spent Friday and Saturday at Bountiful with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. I. Atkinson. Mr. and Mrs. Vern Jensen entertained at dinner Saturday for Mr. and Mrs. Laver! Allsop of Salt Lake. Mr. and Mrs. George A. Steadman arrived home Sunday. Mrs. Steadman has spent two weeks visiting in 1uaho and 'Vyoming. Mr. Steadman has spent the summer at Soda Springs and vicinity. The Genealogica l class will meet with the Priesthood on Monday night instead of Tuesday night with the Mutual as formerly. A book, "The Way to Perfection," by Joseph Fielding Smith is being read and studied, making the class most interesting. Everybody is invited. Miss Genevive Gardner entertained at her home Wednesday night for the officers of the M. I. A.. Games and luncheon were enjoyed. Mr. and Mrs. E. M. Bateman were guests of Mr. and Mrs. Wilford Crane at Riverton Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Hibbard and Mr. and Mrs. Axel Lundquist attended the funeral services of Mr. Henry Beckstead held at Granite Saturday afternoon. Mrs. Elmer Malstrom, Mr. James Wall, Mr. and Mrs. Axel Lundquist and Mrs. Fernstein of Midvale attended the funeral services of Mr. James R. Hand held at Benjamin Sunday afternoon. Mr. Hand was accidently killed. He was a brother of Mr. Heber Hand formerly of this ward. James Wall of Roosevelt is visiting friends and relatives in the ward. Mrs. Orson Shulsen entertained at a family dinner Thursday afternoon in honor of her sister, Mrs. Beulah Snyder's birthday anniversary . Mr. and Mrs. Parley Bills of Soldier Summit and Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Wright of California visited their sister and family, Mr. and Mrs. Henry P. Jensen during the week. A combined sacrament meeting and welcome home was held in the West Jordan chapel Sunday evening, October 11, 1931. Preliminari es were presided and conducted by first counsel9r David M. Haun. Virgil Goates read a splendid letter highly praising the work of Elder Grandale G. Finlayson and presented him with his certificate of release from President Arthur Welling of the North Central States mission. The visiting home missionaries were Elder Donald Hogan and Miss Genevive Gardner, who gave short talks. The time was then turned over to the Recreation committee, Hugh Finlayson in charge who conducted the "Welcome" for Elder Grandale G. Finlayson who recently returned home to the West Jordan ward. Program as follows; duet, Joseph Schmidt and Bertha Sessions, Mary Dahl as accompanis t; piano duet, Ruby and Ramona Leak; reading, Miss Lucile Muir; solo by Elsie Richardson, Evaline Peterson accom-1 panist; welcome home address, Bishop William J. Mygren of Salt Lake, Eldred Gardner, Mrs. Floyd Carter of Nephi and Mrs. Wanda Malstrom were guests of Mr. and Mrs. John Anderson. Wednesday Wesley Gardner and Mrs. John Anderson were dinner guests at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Roland Gardner in Salt Lake. Mr. and Mrs. Vvilliam Walker of Ogden spent the week-end with Mrs. Walker's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Orsen Shulsen. A parent and teachers social was given in the South Jordan school auditorium Wednesday night. One of the main features was the following program, quintette, faculty and janitor; invocation, Bishop B. Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Shields, Mr. and Mrs. Tony Nelson, Mr. and Mrs. William H. Newbold, Mr. and Mrs. Earl Maxfield, Mr. and Mrs. Urban McMullin, Mr. and Mrs. Ross McMullin and Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Palmer formed a party and attended the dance at West Jordan Friday night. Leonard Shields left Thursday for Chicago, where he will spend the winter. A large number from this ward attended the funeral services of Henry Beckstead at Granite, Saturday afternoon. Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Shields were guests of Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Newbold, Saturday night. Mr. and Mrs. E. C. 'Hemmings on of Pocatello, Idaho, were dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. H. P. Hemmingso n, Sunday. Miss Utahna Shields of West Jordan and Ida Holt spent Wednesday in Salt Lake visiting friends. Mr. and Mrs. W. Crittenden spent Monday evening as guests of Mr. and Mrs. Tony Nelson. Mrs. June Reading and daughter, Joy, visited Mrs. Dorthea Newbold, Tuesday. Relief society teachers and ward teachers of East Midvale ward met conjointly Friday evening at a convention held in the East 11.fidvale ward chapel. Topics pertaining to ward teaching were treated by Hans Jensen, Mrs. Sabina Goff of the stake board, Bishop R. H. Clayton, Bishop T. F. Greenwood, Mrs. Lavina Hir:kc and Mrs. Jennie McDonald. A demonstration of proper and improper visits to the home were given by Mrs. Mumford, Mrs. Bradbury and Mrs. DtsatuR_ of Sandy Third ward. Mrs. Neil Olsen was a guest at a bridge luncheon at the home of Mrs. H. E. Hatfield, Friday afternoon. Mr. and Mrs. T. F. Greenwood motored to Provo Sunday and were guests of Mr. and Mrs. Clifton Thayne. Mrs. Ida Nelson of Clearfield, "Utah, was a house guest Monday of Mn•. Niels Nielsen. Mr. and Mrs. L. A.
