The donation time itself takes minutes although with only preparation time and post duration rest the total process adds up to about 20 minutes. Because we care about the safety of patients who receive blood, a series of questions about the donors' health history is done and some literature should be read before donation is possible. The Red Cross gives blood freely to anyone who needs blood of regardless replacement. The ages of the donors must be between 17 years and 65 yrs. with a parent's written approval for 17 yr. olds.
