The standard plan will have an $8.50 access charge which also includes a $5.50 calling allowance. Those calls which are within six miles of the caller will be two and a half cents for the first minute and a half cent for each Phone addiction will cost more "Can you believe some resi- dence telephone customers made over 700 calls in a month? And one call lasted longer than five hours," stated Mountain Bell Telephone Representative Rueben Jimenez who addressed mayors and commissioners on the telephone company's pricing option program at the Salt Lake County Council of Governments meeting Thursday afternoon. He added the top 20 percent of the customers make 50 percent of all calls while the bottom 20 percent of the customers make only five percent of all calls. In Utah, the average number of residence calls per month was 120, yet 60 percent of the customers made fewer than that. The average call lasts four ; minutes but 75 percent were shorter than that and one half were less than one minute long. For each business line 211 calls were made and the average call , was 2.5 minutes although 69 percent were fewer. These statistics were recently complied from studies of over 4,800 customer lines which depict telephone usage and these statistics can be helpful in the future for customers who will be trying to determine which local pricing plan best suits them, said Jimenez. For heavier residential users, Jimenez suggests going with the flat service rate which if passed by the Utah Public Service Commission will be $25 monthly with unlimited local calling. Two other residential plans include the budget service with a $4.50 access charge but calls will additional minute and calls jsnics 0 placed within 22 miles will be eight cents for the first minute down by the Justice Department requiring that AT&T divest itself so of its local services introduced be can competition and three cents for each additional minute. Two options are offered to businesses: a standard service which is $15 per line with no calling allowance and a flat rate service which is $50 per line with unlimited local calling. Jimenez explains the options into the telecommunications industry.
