S. 163, contains the largest assemblage of na tural stone arches in the world. Mors than 90 have been in this park that is a tribute to the artistic talents of wind erosion. There are undoubtedly others tucked away in the more rugged and j less easily penetrated re- gions. There's quite a difference between a national park and a national monument, accord- ing to the U. S. Department of the Interior. The former must be scenic and inspira-- 1 tiona; the latter is generally set aside for its educational value. But every now and then j there is a national monument j that combines scenic beauty with educational importance and eventually becomes a national park. That's just what happened to Arches, the nation's newest national park. The park is divided into six distinct sections with roads and hiking trails twisting throughout each area.
