Cir-Service The Christian de will also meet Oct. 21.' There will be a cake! demonstration.' decorating Christmas cards will be sold p 1 to benefit the Children's Center. 1 Oct. 24 will be an evening of nostalgia when Fred Getman shows home movies taken over the years. He suggested there will be many changes noted in the Southeast over the years. Hundreds of people rolled up their shirt sleeves and lined up to get swine flu vaccinations at clinics held this week. Here at Mount Jordan Junior High the reactions to the innoculations were as varied as the people who got them and most noted that "It didn't hurt at all." Apprehensively watching the person in front of her, this woman studies the technique of administering the vaccine with an air gun . . . I Tl i i . . . rule-breake- tion of night-ou- t privileges., "grounding". Cut-of- f of cash handouts for spending. Forbidding usual recreational activities. Assignment of menial household tasks, not ordinarily the teens responsibility. Today, generally speaking, parents demand too little of their teens. And, punishment that works on one doesn't mean it will work on all, even in the same family. My point is, doing something in the way of punishment is better than doing nothing. What if you make things so uncomfortable for the teen that he leaves home? If your youngster believes you live in constant fear of him leaving, the chances are he's running your househould, not you.. a situation you will live to regret. In most cases, the teen who actually leaves home because of disciplinary measures taken, will return in a short time a far easier person to get along with at home. These funds help send American scouts to other countries during the summer months and girls from foreign countries are helped to come here in exchange. A Floral 255-681- 8 Floral 262-336- 1 furor? If parents don't punish, the chances of someone else having to do it for them, sooner or later, become very real. Which would be less upsetting to the family, home punishment or letting the youngster go until he faces a judge? I rest iny case. Is he, or is it simply that parents want to avoid the unpleasantness and resulting seer over-6- gentleman didn't twitch an eyelash. He just got his innoculation, smiled, and left. Is he too big to spank? Gary Saville Sandy Youth Officer In law enforcement, the term comes up in conversation with parents all too often. It has become an out with some parents, an excuse for shirking responsibility. What kind of world would it be if, were because too big or too old for physical punishment, none at all was given? Obviously, if a youngster is beyond the age of spanking, other punishment must be meted. ' Some parents use the family car privilege as a means of punishment for rule infractions. For a teenager used to freedom, a week without driving can be a sobering experience. If the youngster has "his own" car, I would remind parents whose name is on the title.
