Rebecca Sampson was sustained as the Crescent Second Ward Sunday School secretary with Linnita Best as assistant secretary. Retiring secretary was Wilma Taylor last Sunday evening. Mrs Melbourne Lloyd and Mrs Max Hatch, Crescent, were among those from Salt Lake County who attended the club leaders school at the Utah State University at Logan, 4 days last week. Mrs Wayne Parker and Miss Bonnie Parker entertained last Friday evening at a kitchen shower for Miss Nita Ann Taylor, who is being married in March. The evening was spent playing games. Refreshments were served to 20 guests. The Crescent Clovers club met and enjoyed a bowling party Friday evening. An enjoyable program was presented at 2 p.m., with William Smith as master of ceremonies. Potted plants were given away to the 3 youngest Old Folks, Mrs Alma Fairbourn, Mrs Homer Jaynes, and Mrs Leslie Izatts, the couple married the longest, Mr & Mrs Sam Parkinson 61 years, the oldest widow, Mrs Alma Harrison, and the oldest widower, Eric Dahl. Mrs Melvin Sanders took a group of her daughter Cathy's friends to a Salt Lake Theatre Feb. 24 to see "Pinocchio," to celebrate her 8th birthday. Alldredee and family returned last week from a trip to Anaheim, Calif., where they attended a convention. They also went sightseeing. A National certificate was awarded to Miss Judy Gunderson by Mrs Lena Christensen for completing her years in the junior Auxiliary and becoming a senior member. The first of a series of "club" fight cards at West Jordan has been set for 'Saturday evening, Mar. 10, at Marv Jenson's gym. Fran Haun, executive of Intermountain Boxing Club, said a series of 10 cards in 20 weeks is planned, and if they are successful enough the site will be moved to the Coliseum. The first card will feature double main event with Jerry Sims, heavyweight, in an and Wayman Gray, in a featherweight, bout. Their opponents have not been named. Haun also hopes to include a heavyweight arriving to. take part in Marv Jenson's training program. One candidate, a tall, looks youngster particularly promising. Mr Thornton retired from the railroad Monday, Feb. 19, after 45 years of service. He came to Midvale as the station agent on Jan. 1, 1921, and has used the same telephone from that day until retirement. Mr Thornton received a life membership card in the UP Old Timers Club, conferred by C. C. Larkin, Superintendent, Utah Division.
